Essentials for the Track question

Anyway...Thanks everyone for the info. I am a member of the Chesapeake region, and really look forward to getting into this. I guess the only item I really need would be a helmet.
Another question is how about a fire extinguisher? Is it neccesary to do track events? If so, I was wondering if they are ok to leave in all of the time especially when it is 100 degrees plus outside. Have thought about getting one just in case.

I track the TT alot. Once you are a better driver (meaning going faster and braking later) changing your brake fluid to Castrol SRF will prevent you from boiling your brake fluid.
I know LOTS of students and instructors that will take a 25mg dramamine in the morning if planning on lots of ride alongs. In the passenger seat the g force is really exaggerated!!

Also which manufacturers would you recommend for the helmet? Also what do they usually cost....I have no problem spending alot for safety. I only get one chance on this earth, so it is important for me to be safe.

You can get some really nice lipstick cameras and attach them outside of your car to get some really cool shots, but it's a little early for that.

Expect to spend around $400.00+ for a helmet.
Arai helments are really nice. Bell aren't that bad either.

You might be better off seeing if you can borrow one first?
C4S esq is right about the chair, also bring fluids, don't count on the concession stand. Bring whatever tools you feel you need as well. Also bring a bag for the crap out of your car as you usually have to empty it to run. Only f with a fire extinguisher if your car club requires it, don't get too mental with stuff your first time out, you're not going to hurt yourself or your car.
Do yourself a favor and check out the PDE one of these days, nice intro to the track, with somebody else's porsche. Enjoy.

Remember the words of one of my first instructors... they will stay with me forever.
We were strapping ourselves into my heavily modified Z06 and he looks over and says, "Don't try to impress me because you can't and don't try to scare me because I already am". Basically don't go out to be a hotshot on the first run. Enjoy yourself and work up to your fastest times. You only have one "you" in the world but there will be many more track days to hit.
