Does anyone know why the Porsche center caps have a couple of holes in them. It would be nice if they lined up with the studs on the hood emblems, but noooooooooo - they don't.

I'm thinking of mounting 4 of the silver hood emblems on the wheels and was just wondering.

 

not sure why but Id guess to do with ventilation so trapped water can get out...
Also, notethat the size of the crest and thus positioning of the holes differs between the black and silver and colored crests....the latter being smaller

 

The holes enable you to remove the caps from the wheels without having to remove the wheels from the car in order to pop the caps off.

 

There is a tool that fits in those holes to remove the caps.

Bent paper clip also works. If you want silver hood crests for center caps consider www.boothedesign.com They lock in from the back therefore will not spin so the tip of the shield can point to the valve caps.
