6Speed National Meet: UPDATE
6Speed National Meet: UPDATE
Now that we have received quite a few votes from Buddy's post, I feel it necessary to narrow down the locations to four:
1st: Chicago, the great thing about Chicago is that many 6speeders live there, and it is the perfect location for a northwestern US meet. The Problem with Chicago is that we probably will not attract many Floridians or Californians, and the scenery is not the greatest.
2nd: Dallas/Ft. Worth. Dallas is a great middle area for Floridians and Californians alike. Also, going to the 49th annual Porsche Parade would be a blast, and the road in Texas (as buddy has already experienced
) are great for high speed driving and touring. The problem is that not many New Yorkers and Chicagoans would be attracted because of the long distance, also, many families will have plans during the July 4th timeframe.
3rd: Pebble Beach, CA. This would personally be my favorite, you have the great roads (I will post some pics of 17 Mile Drive later), you have the unimaginable scenery, the best golf in the world (for all you golfers), and if we get a lot of people to come, we could do our own concourse de'elegance or something along those lines. The problem would be that this would be the most expensive option, for east coast people, car transportation would probably be about 2 grand round trip closed car (if we do a group rate) then about 500 bucks a night for the hotel and 415 bucks for a round of golf. Otherwise, this should be the best and most memorable option.
4th: Miami, FL. This would be a great option because of all the FL 6speeders there, but just like Chicago, it is isolated from the rest of the US, and unlike Pebble Beach, it is not that special.
Sadly, I will most likely be gone this summer (to Europe), so I hope that someone (like KPV did) will step up to the plate and set this thing up. Obviously, I will be open to any questions or suggestions, and I would be more than happy to make sure this thing runs smoothly once someone volunteers.

this doesn't usually happens.. for me to attached a pic
I changed my vote in this thread. I think from a fun aspect, you cannot beat Chicago in the summer. We would all have a great time, check out a Cubs game, party, party, party. My concern is that isn't really what this is about and it is too far from east and west coast. I voted Dallas as this seems to be the closest for everyone. I would not go to Pebble Beach, but, I am sure it will be great.

Can we have just one person organing this meet for now. I will need lots of help later but now there is an additional poll up when I already started one. Please funnel anything through me so there will be no confusion.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I second that. A spring meet in Chicago.
Basically, everyone is going to have to be willing to give a little if it is supposed to attract nationwide interest. Another idea is to setup transports from the 3 key locations, noertheast, west and southeast. If enough people show interest a transport trailer can be chartered for a good rate with a single destination and therefore everyone wouldn't have to drive great distances and get arrested and thrown in jail etc, etc.

I just spoke with Intercity Van Lines. Basically, their enclosed trailers will hold 6 to 7 cars. We went through a hypothetical scenario wherein the NJ/NY/PA people would converge in one location, say Morristown, NJ. The trucking company would come to that location and load up the trailer with 6 to 7 of our cars all with the common destination of Chicago. The trailer would cost $2800 one way. Divide that by 6 and that is $467/person.
Now that would be the way to do this. No hassle, relatively cheap cost, fully insured up to $150K per car. If we arranged to use three trucks, NJ/NY, Florida and Cali, we could probably negotiate a lower cost.
This would eliminate people using the distance as an excuse not to attend.
THoughts?

We should probably weight the votes according to the
likelihood of our actually attending...
One guy/gal's vote for Pebble Beach might transalate to
Pebble Beach chance I'll attend 10%
All others 0%
while some other person's Chicago vote might be:
Chicago 100%
Pebble Beach 70%
etc.
I think the second guy's vote is more important... I mention
this because *I* voted for Pebble Beach, but I weigh my
likely attendance at no better than 40% there, and I don't
want to unfairly burden the best-and-faithful that will
go anywhere...
