WAS UPGRADING your 996TT really worth the $$$$$?

I am in the middle of a dilemna. I bought an '01 996TT about 7 months ago and have 20k miles now. Its totally stock except for 19" wheels.
I was offered the following for $7600:
STAGE 3 PACKAGE:
--ECU UPGRADE
--HYBRID TURBOCHARGERS
--BILLET WASTEGATE UPGRADE
--REMUS EXHAUST EUROPEAN WITH RESONATED TIPS
--GT2 SPARK PLUGS+30k MILE SERVICE INCLUDED
--PORTED HEADER UPGRADE

But many factors are eating at me like:
1.) Will this cause more problems? I kind of feel as though problems will arise if I mess with the car.
2.) I bought an aftermarket warranty and dont want to be stuck with denied claims if they find out.
3) I will be more inclined to speed=higher probability of getting tickets
4) Was it really worth it to you doing the upgrades now that you look back at the dollar you spent?

PRICE ERROR----SORRY $7600 was what they quoted me. and no plenum intake.

of course it was...

$6600 is peanuts to spend on this car.

However, i believe in enhancing a vehicle in a stepwise fashion.

This way, you can really focus on, and understand the changes that are made.

If i were you...i would get a suspension first.
Then get rid of that silly stock bottlecap by getting an ehxhaust and chip (stage 1).

This is where most people stop - and is also where the car should have been from the factory.

Some of us go further...

others (craig) go much further.

How far is YOUR limit?

May i ask which shop is giving you that offer? $6600 for stage 3 with 30K serives is a dream deal. EVOMS start with $11300 for their 3 kit. I will say go for it. Once you got the power, you will never look back ...

I believe you have answered your own question. If number 2 is important then wait until the warranty lapses. If you can't control your speed impulses or unable to afford the tickets then don't do it.

As for reliability, your problems will be minimal.

That sounds like a great package. I with SD above...I enjoy adding bits and pieces here and there and seeing what I get. I don't think you will have any big problems from those upgrades. If you are worried about warranty...then you are worried about the $$$ then don't do it. You will be going so fast they can' t catch you

THAT IS A BARGAIN!!!

I would assume these are all used parts at that price, right? Just the service and plugs alone is $2k I think.

However, it sounds like you are too worried about tickets and warranty to enjoy the extra power. You might want to reconsider and keep your car stock, then you will have the peace of mind to drive your car with no worries.

Good luck with your decision.

You are 100% right about item 3 which is why you can't forget to add about $1,000 for a radar detector with laser diffusers. At least that will help.

As far as it being worth it, the only regrets people have is not having done it sooner.

No package will guarantee 100% of everything you 've mentioned above. You just have to make the same mature decision as you did when first bought your car 7 months ago.

I was in the same position you're in right now. I waited until my warranty was up before I added my exhaust, headers, diverter upgrade and GIAC stage 2 flash. I really didn't want a hassle with the dealer if something came up on warranty. I suggest you wait till the warranty is up before upgrading. That way, you have peace of mind. As for tickets, you've got to be smart when you drive and arm yourself with a countermeasure. I use a V1 in my turbo, but I have the Escort X50 in both my other cars. Both radars are excellent IMHO. BTW, $6,600 sounds like a great deal!!!

If there is a reputable shop close to you then I wouldn't worry about problems. Everything always has a few kinks but usually once worked out it's fine. No dealer can deny certain warranty claims that have nothing to do with mods but by doing what you are thinking about all the big-ticket items will be out of warranty unless the shop restores stock in the event of a problem. For the price you are getting and what you'd end up with it's a great bet to go for it b/c you'll end up with a different car.

Martin
Please don't use the word "cheap" to described perfomance parts.
So which shop is it?
