WOOHOO I get a free new 996tt

Well not free, but I get a new car. If anyone was following at all I was waging war against porsche and claiming lemon law on my car, and I found out today that I won. So I get to have a brand new 2004 car built to my spec as long as I don't exceed my prior sticker price. These are the options I have on this car

513 Driver's Seat Lumbar Support
586 Lumbar support - left seat
692 Remote CD changer (6-disc)
939 Soft leather rear
982 Supple Leather Seats/Trim
C02 Equipped with catalytic converter
X50 Power package option on 2002 Turbos
X54 Oval Chrome Exhaust Pipes
X71 Aluminum Instrument Dials
X97 Aluminium/leather shift ****
X98 Aluminium/leather parking break handle
XSC 996: Crest on Headrest

and it is black on black

My question is, if you could build your car to spec and stay within these limits what would you build, and what color. I need help here as I bought this off a lot, and now don't know what I want to do. All I know is not black and not yellow

I am thinking of dropping the X50 and maybe doing some of the Kevin's zero clearance specials, I don't know really. If there is anything anyone wants, such as Mansour and your aluminum PCM cover I will order it on the new car and sell the parts brand new to cover my cost of buying other things like techart bumpers and fancy exhausts. (Aerokit anyone??) I feel like a kid in a candy store picking all new things out. The only rule is that if I spend less than sticker I don't get it back in cash.

Jason I am definitely in!!
The options I wanted were the Alu look PCM kit, ALu look belt releases and storage lid bin turbo. I will give you all my black parts and will pay you the full value of these options! (I know they are rather pricey but I really want them ). I agree with dropping the X50...I might be getting me the IA 640Tpowered by Zero Clearance myself soon.
You should find someone who needs factory electric seats as those are 1220 a side!!
What color do you want the car? I can help you spec it to get same MSRP as old one. PCCBs would offset 8K of the X50 if you want them...

Well yes I can go over and pay the difference, I just was hoping not to, but if I really want to I can...this is as far as I know

Mansour- I will see what I can do about getting you those parts, as I know you want them all very badly.

As for color I'm torn, I really like Guards Red, but well its red, and arest me red did not get made up for no reason, I like slate gray too, but its extra cost...who knows to tell you the truth. As of now I'm leaning red...or white...or

I'll give you the short version..if you want more details let me know.

The Problematic Events and Dealing with the Service Dept.

Sometime after getting the car at about 1500-2000 miles the car would pop out of gear. One time while shifting while getting onto the highway it popped out of gear and then ground the gears like crazy. It did that one time after and never popped out again.

However it seemed to cause a new problem, the car would jam into second gear when coming to a stop.

I took it in, had them look at it, first time "no problem, but we adjusted your floor mat it was too high and might have caused you to not push the clutch in all the way." I go home thinking I'm a moron.

It still sticks, I think did they even drive the car. Take it back about 2 weeks later, "We tried over 50 times to make it happen, nothing happened" I offer to take the tech on a drive, as we go, first stop light we get to it jams in gear for me, Tech was like "what the hell" I was like yeah see..he took over, it happens for him, he says to take it and drive it maybe it'll go away.

Drive it another 3000 miles still have the problem take it to the dealership, "We looked it over, found nothing, checked the clutch and other things it may be normal" I again go home feeling stupid.

Fourth and final time, I take it and tell them open the transmission up and if they don't find anything I will pay their labor bill, they open it..."hey look there are burrs on the syncros and gears maybe we should replace them" 20 days later the parts arrive and the work is done.

All in all 50 days in the shop for a problem that could've been solved if they would've listened to me the first time.

The Arbitration Hearing

Show up everyone was very nice, as if ohh we know we got ourselves into some **** now. Arbitration commences, I have with me my lawyer who specializes in Lemon Law...Porsche counters with one of the head tech advisors in the U.S. and a builder of some of Porsches race engines. And their is an independent arbitrator to hear both sides. It will be Law vs. Knowledge.

We present our case, make it known what we feel and how we feel the Lemon law in my state has been breached, My lawyer although this is the first time I have had face to face contact with him knows my case as well or better than I do. He brings up how Porsche will try to argue this and that and how they have no facts to back it up and so on and so on, the guy was good.

Porsche counters, is the car modified, "yes" with what, an "exhaust," why is it on there my answer, a 150,000 car needs to sound better than it did from the factory. This starts a little verbal battle with the Porsche tech and my lawyer as to what this has to do with the price of beans. My lawyer finally backs him into a corner to make him say, it has nothing to do with anything.

Porsche tries again, the tech goes on in detail with tech bulletins repair orders and tech manuals that show this could be a sign of abuse, or premature wear, or mis-assembly. We counter, which one was it, Porsche finally says I don't know, that is just what it could be.

Porsche makes one last ditch attempt that I thought ruined my case, he brought up the DME and over revving into range 1 and range 2. Now I know a lot about my car, this I didn't know in details, he goes on to say how range one is revving over the 6800 rpm limiter, and how range 2 is over the 7800 rpm limit. He stressed this, he also stressed the words over. Which I would later come to find out from our own Stephen (porschePHD) that all you have to do is bump the 6800 limiter to create a record in the DME and that it isn't very accurate. Porsche makes it out to sound that it is the be all end all of knowledge of my car. We go check the DME my values are 16000 something in range 1 and 55 in range 2, we ask him what exactly they mean, he says he isn't sure how they convert only that something like 350 in the DME equals 22 seconds in that range...therefore 16000 is in the 15 minute range. I was shocked at these numbers as I am not abusive of my car as it is my daily driver and would like it to last a long time.

We go back to the office and Porsche and my lawyer are talking outside the office, the arbitrator who was a genuinely nice guy says damn that is a nice car, and it sounds really good too. Score one for me. Anyway we finish up and leave, some other minor things were said that do not affect the outcome of the story.

The News

Wait a week hear today that I won, I don't have all the details yet, however when I find out what the arbitrator really had to say I will let you know if you are interested.

Thats a good end to a bad story Jason. I had the popping out of second problem and got a new tranny no questions asked...dealer was nice cause they had 4 other TTs with same problem.
If you want (I am trying to see if price is reasonable) and your interior is black I would also like the leather fuse box cover

Thanks. Really curious about the DME timing situation. Please keep us informed or if anyone else can comment.

congrats,

My only comment would be to get only the options you really want. If you plan on keeping the car long term modify at will, but if you are like most people with these cars, 2-3 yrs is tops for a car that will come out with a new body style in less than one year. Mods and changing out interior pieces will really sink the resale value on a car with a bad track record in this category. Also, after a while the supple leather wear shows up much more than the regular.

Enjoy.

A few comments

It is pretty clear that the X50 option is a loosing proposition right from the start. Save your money and get other options you like... you'll be glad you did.

By the way... I believe that the over-rev conditions can be reset to null with a Porsche PST2 diagnostic computer... if you know someone who has one and you are concerned... take it in and get it reset.

And finally... congratulations on winning your case. I have had two lemon-law cases and won both of them (without a lawyer). All it takes is good documentation, good research, and an ability to reason without getting emotional.

if you drop the X50 you really have lots of room to play. I would def do that and get PCCBs. As far as color i like polar silver and white.
