rockitman...great instructions. I used your gt3 install tips a few weeks ago and it made it a lot easier.

one question....your install of the tequiptment rollbar looks pretty straight forward, where does the 7-10 hour timeframe come from? Is that just hours and hours trying to get the bar to line up right?

also, after doing it yourself, would you recommend it? Or would it be a better idea to pay the $500 to have it installed professionally?

thanks again man.

The time involved comes with the lining up and crushing the rocker plastic panels along with being careful not to screw up the interior. If I were to do it again, with two people, I could probably do it in 5 hours. $500 for dealer install sounds like a good deal if:
1) They know what they are doing and have installed them before.
2) The are careful with the interior and don't scratch or damage anything...

Very questionable attributes of my local dealer. Most likely, they will never lay their paws on my GT3 unless absolutely necessary...ie and electrical problem or the like. I plan on doing most routine maintenance tasks like oil and brake ect changes. If I need an alignment, I will probably drive many miles to bring it to a place that tunes competition Porsches...My dealer was allocated 1 GT3, mine and I don't want it to be the test guinea pig, if you know what I mean. I reserve their service for the Cayenne only...My daily beater!!!

I actually have a great service guy here in the dc area. He really takes care of me. But they would have to estimate 10-12 hours labor for the job. Basically like you said, to make sure they don't mess up any of the interior. My 6 hour quote was from Autothority here in VA.

Also, when you guys say 'crush the rocker panels', what do you mean. Do you not cut out any plastic to make room? It sounds like you just smash the bar into the plastic?

Tech rollbar here with GT3 seats and GT3 harnesses made by Shroth and they are red, I have never seen white, I have seen grey.

I did not want to cut the rocker panels, rather if you crush them by bolting in the front legs first, you push and roll the bar back till the rear legs almost line up with the rear leg mounting points. This in effect crushes the plastic panels(deforms them) and if you remove the bar to sell the car, the plastic will recover and not be noticeable. Once the rear legs almost meet up with the rear bolt mount points, you need to unbolt the front leg bolts, then bolt in the rears. Once the rears are in, then you can struggle with getting the front bolts in. That is the way I had to do it when I did the install by myself. I was unable to get the leverage needed to bolt in the rears with the front legs already bolted in because of the cramped space when working in the back seat area...

OK Rockitman If you are 6'7" then you probaly have your seat back as far as possible with the GT3 seats. Do you think that the Stock sport seats in an more upright setting would fit with the Porsche bar. I am not sure if I want to go all the way and get the Seats just yet.

It's not all the way back, since I don't like the back of the headrest portion of the seat making contact with the harness cross bar. The stock sport seats will work, but you can't slide them all of the way back...

NOOOO, if you are taller than 5'6" the STOCK sports seats will be cramped and the passenger seat will be worse ...

Just a tip!! I used a porta - power to spread the front legs apart and into position when lining up the bolt holes. Made for a really painless install.

Just in case you don't know a porta - power is a hydraulicly actuated ram (speader) that I placed between the two front bar legs and then pumped to spread them apart.

Porta power

Okay,

Here is the next question. I have to be able to use my back seats for my kids. I would like a rollbar that I can put in and take out. Can DAS or someone custom build one for me that has fixed mounts with maybe quick release pins or something? The reason I can't just go with a Techquipment bar without the brace is I do track the car and need a place to route my rear belts. Currently I am using a Stable Energies Harness Bar but you can't use that with a Roll Hoop.

HELP! and thanks!

Oh what is the Diameter of the tubing?? on either the Factory porsche peice or any other bar out there. It looks like the Porsche peice is made out of stainless steal. is that right I am taking the pictures of rockitmans car and looking at the seat position compared to my seat position.

right...Porsche bar is stainless steel, but the dassport is mild steel and will require painting.

If you're interested, e-mail Mackenzie Horn at CDOC (mackenzie@cdoc.com)...they sell both the tequipment bar and dassport one.
