Registering car defects
Registering car defects
My car is one of the ones that occassionally pops out of second. The one dealer I had it to told me the repair wouldn't be covered b/c the car has some mods (it does?). He said the field rep. would have to see/OK it and wouldn't blah, blah, blah. I know a number of owners here have had or still do have that problem and a number of dealers fixed it by replacing the tranny. Even if I find a dealer to do it, it still pisses me off and have logged a complaint here:

I'd ask if you have had or do have this problem, or want to do it for any others problems, you register you and your car as well. Car companies all too often get away with crap b/c nobody lets out some of their dirty little secrets. The dealers are the worst, even though they probably are supposed to report certain things to the manufacturers and certainly any safety issues to the NHTSA. I consider a car popping out of gear, even if it's only occassionally, to be a BIG safety issue.

It is a big safety issue as I had the tranny on my 03 replaced when I had very few miles nad no mods! It popped out of second once exiting a highway ramp and I almost hit the dirt!!
sorry to hear about this, Jim. had one of my porsches years ago with same problem popping out of second-had to replace tranny. fully covered.I hope the mods on the car don't play an issue. good luck..
Old thread but a hot topic. From about just after this thread until now the car hasn't done it anymore and i haven't the foggiest idea why. I did log the complaint at a Porsche dealer some time ago and I did also do the NHTSA thing, but never heard. It's a shame more people didn't log complaints because thats one of the ways a recall would get done and not these crappy TSB's, which don't really obligate Porsche to do anything. If they were a stand up company, they would take care of it for someone even if their warranty was up as is the case for techart 996 #3.
As mentioned in the "SOS poppoing out of.............. thread", porsche has agreed to pay for half of parts and labour. However, with so many guys and at least one gal (Robyn) that has had this problem, Im inclined to believe that the issue stems from a defective tranny. I really have a hard time believing that more than ten cars have the same problem due to them "abusing" their cars. Im glad that they at least decided to go dutch on the bill, but the right thing to do would be to foot the whole bill. At least thats what I would have done for my customer in my company.
