ECU question

I posted a similar question a few days ago and didn't get much of a response, but I was wondering for those of you who have remapped your ECU's, did you have any problems when you took your cars in for a service?

I have a 15,000 mile service coming up. Is there any risk that the dealership will revert the software back to stock settings? Is the ECU involved in this service? Any feedback would be great.

not at all kmy. If you want to be on the safe side, ask Stephen at imagineauto.com to whip you up one of his IBE switchers which has up to three different programs, one being "stock mode" so the dealer will never know. That's what I've done, although the vinal decals give my game away That and the bottle lol...

TSP-MIAMI is infamous around these parts
Kmy. It will depend on which company "re-mapped" your box. There are a couple of tuners whose programs are not visible with PS2, and can't be erased. There are others however that can be erased if flashed by the dealers computer resulting in the car not starting or running properly.

GIAC's program can not be erased as there is an encrypter which I believe protects data flow both ways (and thus undectectable)...
Call Stephen at Imagine Auto to double check...As sharkster said though, I myself got the IBE chipswitch mainly to keep my stock program and to be able to switch for dealer visits

Thanks guys. I had Gemballa do the remapping. Heinz mentioned that it shouldn't be a problem getting a service done, but I always feel better getting an opinion from an independent third party. I'll give Stephen a call at Imagine Auto.

A service by itself is not a problem. They do have the ability to reflash the chip. I simply tell them not to reflash anything without my written permission. Then again, one look and they know it isn't stock.
