X Band Radar extinct?

I've been considering deactivating the X band reception on my Valentine. Has anyone seen an X band speed radar in the last few years. All I ever pick up is door openers and burglar alarms.

I ran into a few during the 2002 Gumball. Most alerts are door openers and alarms as you say though.

I deactivated mine years ago. It's useless unless you're in the middle of no where.

MJC123 have you personally seen an X band in Texas in the last 3-4 years?

can't remember exactly when/where but within the last couple of yrs, was in the city limits of a small town....thought it was a microwave or something but it was a radar. Certainly haven't seen it in the city limits or around D/FW in a while. Sure would be great to have a switch to engage/disengage x band on the v-1

Ka is most likely a cop. K and X falses are much more common than Ka falses.

jcramair1:

In Mass, Ka is almost always a cop. You also need to look out for K and Laser bands. While I still have X activiated, I have never seen a cop using it since I have had a V1 (4 or so years).

Well now that I just drove from San Diego to Dallas, I can comment on the Radar bands,

CHP
Arizonia
and some Texas State police use Ka.

New Mexico
and some Texas state police use K.

Don't ask me how I know.

As far as I can tell X is no longer in use.

In the Dallas/Fort Worth area laser and Ka is used mostly. The smaller adjacent towns use K band equipment but some are moving to laser and Ka. It used to be that door openers were mostly X band but now there seems to be more K. They give strong annoying alarms on my Valentine. Fort Worth school buses also have K band transmitters front and rear that set off the Valentine from about a mile away.
