Oil cunsumption has descreased from 1

quart every 400 miles (when I first had the engine replaced do to oil consumption) to 1 quart every 1500 miles approx. My trip to Yosemite was about 1700 miles on a quart now it is back to about 1400 -1500 miles in city / freeway driving. 2 things:

The oil level markings when you check the oil level are not linear. It drops one level for the first 800-900 miles then quickly drops there-after. The last marker before I add a qt lasts only about 75 miles.

Second; slight pitch on the road, and I get different readings. In my garage, which is flat, I get a higher reading than on a slight pitch of the road. Not a hill, just a slight tilt / pitch. I have not tested on a downward tilt just upward...

Interesting observations....I have a similarly unscientific observation that when my oil is full I get more smoke at start and "use" more oil than if it is 2 bars below the top. Seems I don't use oil at all when it is at the top-2bar level.

I never keep my oil any higher than 2 bars from the top. I avg 1400 miles before it goes down a qt. That said, please tell us more about getting the motor rebuilt due to oil consumption. was it under warranty or did you have to fork over the bucks.

It was burning about a qt every 100 miles at first to every 300 miles when it was replaced. Dealer replaced under warranty for new engine...

It's not always the engine that eats up the oil, often times it's the turbos that eat the oil up.
