Q re upgrading stereo in 01TT

I want to explore options of upgrading my sound system. Ideally, I would be able to keep the factory nav unit in place but replace the amps and speakers, sub. Is this possible? If I do replace the factory Nav unit, how do you control all the functions that are currently accessible through the Nav menu (Time, etc etc.)?

I don't need this to be a competitive sound system by any means, just to sound good when cruising around.

Thanks all.

I had some guys here in the DC area quote me about $2OOO for exactly that. They were going to put an amp in the trunk, and replace all the speakers, but still use the factory head unit so it wouldnt look any different.

Maxwell,
What speakers did they reccommend? Were you keeping the door subs or putting a box in somewhere else? I too would be interested in a small upgrade that would kick for cruising.

That is a fair number for the upgrade. I do an Alpine Xtype 3 way up front and 2 way rear with amp for about that price . You get 4" comonents in dash and rear panels and a 6.5" midbass in the door. good bass response for no sub in the system.
