Turbo of GT2 vs. Turbo of X50 pkg.

I was under the impression that Porsche had just 2 turbos. The smaller one.. used in the base 996 Turbo, and the larger one used in the X50 package. I was also under the impression that the GT2 used the same turbos as the X50 package cars.

The reason I ask, is because a dealership said they can upgrade the X50 package turbos to the GT2 turbos for $7000. This sounded really fishy to me.

Can any one help with this?

Also, does anyone know if the X50 cars already use GT2 intercoolers?

Thanks in advance.

You are right, the dealer is confused. The GT2 and X50 turbos and intercoolers are the same.

Thanks for your help guys.

The scary thing is that it wasn't the salesman. It was the service/parts manager. I even called other dealerships service departments... and they weren't even sure about the differences between stock turbo and x50 turbo, much less the difference between the gt2 and x50... this is inclusive of the intercooler question. Yikes!!!

I'll beat their price . . . give me $6500 and your x50 turbos, and I'll give you a set of GT2 turbos (which may looking surprisingly similar to your x50 turbos).

The GT2, X50 and Turbo "S" models have identical engines, turbos, intercoolres and transmissions. The GT2 has a cover piece covering the functional output shaft due to no FWD.

Doesn't the GT2 also have a locking differential that the TTs don't?

A very few Euro TTs had a factory LSD as an option.... No US Turbo has a factory LSD from my knowledge...
