Answer this question: Why I bought a Porsche 996 turbo.
I bought my Turbo simply becuase I loved my 99 C4 so much and wanted more power. I also got a really good deal on my car that I could not pass up at the time....Since then it has been modding and modding and more modding.

Just a question out of curiosity. Do all of you mod your own cars or do you bring them to specialty shops? If so, how much do the mechanics charge as for as labor?

I purchased my first turbo in l985, it was a Guards red US spec 1979 930 which was a beautiful car. Didn't do much to it other than exhaust and 1 bar spring. Great car, but traded it for a new 1988 "ice box" turbo, white with white center Fuchs wheels. Very good looking car. Then, after having a 1989 C4 for a brief period, I purchased a new 1991 964 turbo which has full Ruf suspension, wheels, "S" engine etc. and "short" gears. I absolutely love the car to this day. I've owned it for 13 years and it still thrills. Have also owned several 996 turbos. Currently have a 2002 X50 with Ruf PSS9 suspension; Ruf short shift, Evo shiftlink and B&M shifter; GIAC stage 4 software etc.; and Fabspeed Supersport exhaust. LOVE the car. Why Porsche turbos: They work; they're a blast to drive; and they're fun to mod. Frankly, the ad is right: There is no substitute.
work on the TT

My story ...
After I sold my business and moved to Michigan, my wife and I decided to do something fun with part of the funds as a reward for all of the past blood sweat and tears. Thought about buying an airplane or some kind of exotic car. But, after talking with some colleagues in my then new hometown, who were also members of the local Porsche club, we decided to buy a Porsche and join the club. I didn't need to rent a hanger, or worry about annuals and TBO's, besides there was an empty bay in the new garage, so off we went to the dealership, expecting to order a new C4S.
A few days later my wife was giving me a hard time in front of a couple friends, saying that after getting this new car, in fact on the drive home from the dealership, she was sure I would already be talking about the next car. I said, “Well, let’s just cut to the chase and buy the next car now.” She asked what would that be and I said "Why, the Turbo of course!" She said how much and I said that I wasn't sure. The conversation ended there. Important point … she didn’t say something to the effect of … “over my dead body!”
A few days later while at the dealership, I mentioned the above conversation to the salesman and he said that he just happened to have a Turbo coming in soon and the guy who ordered it had backed out, so it was available. He then asked, "Do you want me to run the numbers?" Sixty days later, I drove home in a black 2002 996TT. I did not talk about the next one on the drive home that day.
That conversation has shifted to the next modification and only recently has the idea of another car come up. I need a race car in addition to the Turbo. A GT3RSR would be nice!
