Carrera GT Price/Production

At what maximum price would you not hesitate to buy the Carrera GT, assuming a predicted production run of 1,500 cars?

Alternatively, what maximum amount of total production do you feel would justify the $440,000 price?

For me, the answers are $280,000 and 400. maybe 500.

At a price of $440k, production should be a limited run of 1000 cars max to be generous, would be nice to see such a special car limited to 500 cars, 1,500 is too much and if demand is there for more at the end of the run in 06 Porsche will probably throw a curve ball.

For comparison,

What are the production runs of the other exotic?

Enzo: 399 cars

McLaren SLR: 3500 cars

CGT: 1,500

Anyone know how many Veyrons were gonna see? I'm guessing less than 200, maybe even less than 100.

I think Ferrari has the numbers right, I believe the F40 and F50 were all in the 400-500 car range (someone needs to verify this). Any less and you get the McLaren F1 (extremely limited) and any more its begins to become less exotic.

What are the production figures on the Murcielago, Gallardo, 550 and 360, it should be less than all of these. I will post with these figurs later tonight.

1500 is way too many. Look at what has happened to the 996TT and GT2's. A pristine 993TT goes for almost the same as a 996TT. Why? Because of availability. To hold a price of $440,000, there needs to be a big reduction in production. At a production of 1500 units each Porsche dealership would get 5 or 6 CGT's. That's alot of $440,000 cars. Plus the only thing that car will do lose value. Unlike an Enzo or Mclaren

The Maybach is a great example of this. 500 were to be built. They have sold less than 350. My local Mecedes dealer has two in stock, plus the dealer is driving one. BIG MARKETING LOSER!!!

To answer the question: 500 units at $250000 will ensure exclusivity and potential appreciation.

problem with GT2 was more a matter of value and utility relative to the 996TT as percieved by the US market.

Funny story on an F40:

I am a car dealer as many of you know. A guy came in to buy a new car back in the late 80's and showed an open loan on his credit for $1.2 million. When he was asked what it was for, he said he just purchased an F40 and thought he got a good deal. Well the going rate today on a perfect F40 is between 275 and 350. So he got a real good deal.

I also think Porsche could have gone the other way with the CGT and priced it at $185,000.00 and built 1000 a year. Like a boxster on steriods. HA HA

There will be less production of the GT2 and GT3 than the CGT, I find that mind boggling at the price of the CGT, the idea just doesnt sit right with me of the price of $440k and 1500 cars being built.

There may be fewer GT2s than CGTs but that definitely isn't the case with the GT3. There were 1856 of the '99 GT3 produced and there's supposed to be 2500 or so of the '04. It does look like North America will fall short of the 750 allocated but it hasn't been stated how that will affect the total production. There will supposedly only be 500 some '04 GT3RS street cars so that one will be more limited than the CGT.
