Are these cars that hard to come by? I was at Manhatten Motorcars two weeks ago and they had appx. 15 in stock. I was told that only 2 were sold.
They had one on a lift for service. It was interesting to see the underside. Nice layout.

I just bought one this week at Symbolic Motors in La Jolla, CA. I just sold a 360 Spider and a 996 Twin Turbo and I have to say that the lambo is quite amazing. I don't regret the move, the car has 996TT power and corners at 1g, I don't even talk about its unique look. I have the egear paddles that behave just like Ferrari's. It is a very serious car that Audi makes simply more reliable and modern. BTW, call Sean at Symbolic if you want one at sticker, that is simply what I paid and he has a few more available, tell him Blaise sent you.
I just had a quick view of a yellow one headed in the opposite direction on the LIE this afternoon about 3pm. Stood out quite well and well see if it is a car i see around from now on.

I disagree, a Gallardo w/6 speed at $168,000 is not too much, especially when compared to a 360 modena that never sold for sticker and a 99 is still going for$130K. After all it is a Lambo. With your logic someone can call a 911 Turbo a hopped up VW because of outsourcing. Compared to a 360 and Gallardo I feel the Turbo is the true bargain at $120ish, relative to the others performance. A Gallardo's looks, however are to die for. I would get one!

Gallardo's just aren't selling, esp for the $25k over MSRP some dealers are asking.
The Lambo dealers I have been to still have the same couple Gallardos sitting around. I was told by my local dealer that since Oct. they have sold 1. There are still 4 sitting on the showroom floor.
I expected they will have a re-sell trajectory similar to Murcielagos. You can get a 2003 Murcielago, with 3000-4000 miles for $215k, that is almost $100k less than new counting taxes and all.
Don't get me wrong, I really like the Gallardo, I am probably going to pick on up. I just don't want to lose 30% in one year.
I just don't think it has the loyal, almost insane, and illogical following and resale of similar ferraris, like the 360, where a used car that is 2 yrs old, almost out of warranty, and has 10k miles will still sell for MSRP.

On the cayenne we are all familiar that the bodies are all made and painted by VW, now the new 3.2 LV6 is straight out of a VW, and there are many rumors that the 4.5L V8 engine is basically Audis V8 (rumors brought up on another web forum)In addition, I have read that many the 996 body parts are manufactured by BMW for Porsche.

I'll have to call "BS" on the BMW statement.
In the 50 year history of Porsche no BMW part or technology has ever been used.
The VW CEO is the largest Porsche shareholder, let's just say he married strategically when he was a Porsche Engineer developing Porsche race cars.
Porsche's Development and Research Center does work for - you guessed it - VW. And also licenses some of its technology to other car companies - like Mercedes.
The oldest Mercedes factory in Germany is less than 2 miles away from the main Porsche factory. BMW is in Munich, a good two hours south east of Stuttgart. As you all know Munich is Bavaria. In what I think the nicest area of Germany with THE highest cost of doing business in Germany. BMW is a company operating very close to capacity and is heavily outsourcing like any other German automobile manufacturer. I think it is highly unlikely that BMW has a profit center that makes sheetmetal parts for Porsche. This would kill their target profit margins.
Porsches used to have - in 964s - Mercedes connectors and other electrical components (probably because these engineers have lunch together and talk during weekend BBQs).
I am not 100% sure about the BMW connection but am quite confident that I have read something like that in a respectable magazine, I will try to find the source. I am definitely not trying to talk out of my *** so I apologize if I am mistaken. I dont think the distance angle of Munich to Stuttgart holds well, if that was the case Porsche would not manufacture things in Finland. Everything else you said, however I agree with.
