New TT with new mods, now help me learn how to drive it
Just got my first TT a couple of months ago and it wasn't long before I felt it needed a few mods. I want to really learn how to drive it well before I add too much power, so I decided to do the suspension mods first along with a short shift kit.
I'm in Atlanta so Orton Performance did the work for me and they did a fantastic job. I highly recommend Neil, he took the time to discuss all the various options and made sure that I got what I wanted/needed to meet my requirements. When it comes time for the ECU flash I'll be sure to give him a call.
Below are pix of the car, other than the new suspension and the short shift kit, it's completely stock. I certainly like the new stance much better than stock. The ride is much harder than stock, but that's the way I like the settings. Handling is night and day. The short shifter takes some getting use to, but again I like the feel better than stock.
I know I have to learn how to drive this machine properly in order to truly appreciate what it can do. Are there any fellow 6speeders that have any recommendations for driving events, instructions, general advice on how to go about doing this in the Atlanta area?
Thanks in advance,
Alex

Congrats on your new baby!!.. The ride height looks PERFECT.. Some of the best ways to learn ur car is quite obviously to drive it a lot!.. The more u drive, the more confident and knowledgable about its driving characteristics you become. I would suggest looking for some car clubs to join and participating in track events/driver Ed programs.. Thats where I learned and it Grrreattly increased my skills.. Kudos!
sweet ride. DE's are definitely a great help. It's a huge help to have someone experienced point you around the track, and tell you why to do it a certain way. Plus, on the track, if you push it too hard you've got room for error.
Congrats on a great car and taking it to a great Guy, Neil!
I would suggest joining local club, and get an instructor that either
owns or greatly understands how to drive a turbo. (Not an instructor
that has a 97 Boxter...)
I would also suggest the Porsche driving experience, it is so close and such
fantastic instructors.

PDE @ Barber - you will not regret it. I am in Atlanta and have an Ortonized car too. Send me a PM and we can set up a time to talk and I can give you the details of the Porsche Driving Experience.
congrats!!! You never mentioned what suspension you now have. go to PCA.org and find some PCA events.
What level of experience do you have? I guess alot if the 420hp became mundane so quickly!
You can drive this car all day on the street and you will never find out what it is capable of, you MUST get to road atlanta.
there are several 6speeders in you area that enjoy both track events and some spirited mountain road rallies. I'm sure your shop can put you in touch with these local guys and they will help from there.
I would like to repeat the part about getting to the track to safely and fully understand the capabilites of that awesome car, and again congrats and welcome.

Suspension: JIC Cross Competition.
Experience: Other than what some would call aggressivre driving on public roads, none with the 996TT. I did have three sessions with Skip Barber at Laguna Seca, that's where I got bit by the racin bug, but that was with low power open wheel cars. I heard great things about PDE and that's on the agenda as well, as is the PCA.
The mountains are great, I took a couple of trips to the Dragontail, but not with the TT. That will happen soon though, I hear the 11 miles and 318 curves calling.
The 420hp is anything but mundane, that's why I went with the suspension rather than the ECU. I played around a bit with the car this morning without the PCM, another experience altogether-so much to learn.

Alex,
Congratulations !! The car looks a lot better than stock (I have the Guards Red turbo you saw on the lift at Orton the day you stopped by !!).
Join PCA and sign up for the DE events (there is one this weekend at Road Atlanta). Great instructors and you'll learn quick.
Glad Neil took care of you ( and glad you took my recommendations haha).
