Differences between X50 and GT2 Tranny?
Differences between X50 and GT2 Tranny?
The X50 and Turbo S models come with a "stronger" tranny. The GT2 reportedly is identical to the TT tranny except the front drive output shaft is covered by a cover.
Coincidentally the X50 and GT2 were introduced side by side. Is this the same exact "stronger" unit?

I unfortunately have only had an opportunity to drive a few miles with the new Stage 4 flash due to the car being at the dealer for service, but I would say the CGT is still faster. The GT2 with the way the turbos make power and its generous amount of torque feels quite fast, but once you start ripping through the gears at high rpm with the CGT, the GT2 falls a bit short.
I will have the GT2 back next week and should be able to make a better comparison.

The gearings on the GT2 may be different.

Stephen? Any opinion on this?

the stock TT tranny and the X-50 trannies are the SAME. I dont know about the GT2 as I dont have one.
I have personally been involved in the rebuild of my X-50 tranny. It is a myth that it is "stronger" than the stock unit (again dont know about the GT)
There are NO steel syncros. On my rebuild I replaced all the brass syncros with steel.
The brass ones are in there because of their lesser tendency for expansion and contraction vs steel. Thus hot or cool they are about the same size.
When you go with steel, cold shifting is initially notchy and not very smooth. As the tranny warms up it becomes "normal" to shift. Ordinary buyers would not put up with the initial feel of a tranny with steel syncros. However they are much harder metal than the brass ones.
Just my 2 cents learned from experience with my own trans.

This is a cut and paste from the factory order guide. Something is different since the transmission is "modified"
OPTION X50 Turbo Power Kit 450 HP
Includes modified turbo chargers,
intercoolers, electronic control units, and
transmission.
$17,880
