Discussion about the Ford GT?

I would be interested in comments and thoughts about the Ford GT.

I have to mention that I am big fan of Porsche turbos. The GT is a new car with no reliability record, but it is a ford afterall and I can only assume that it may be prone to durability issues. On the other hand, I think that one could safely assume that parts, at least for the engine, should be readily available and cheap for a long time to come given the fact that it shares parts mustangs and trucks. The Porsche definitely wins in my book when it comes to reliability at this point, but then maintenance and parts are a killer!

The Ford GT is putting up some SERIOUS numbers in all performance categories. In a recent (January edition) of Car and Driver, it seriously trounced a GT3 and a 360 Stradale in every category hands down. It beat both cars to 150 MPH by a full 7 seconds! and even bested the GT3's lap times by one second (2 mile road course, approximately 1:30 per lap).

Any thoughts? I would be interested in a debate.

ColorChange is infamous around these parts
I really like it but normally don't like Fords. Performance is supposed to be great. If you can wait, please do because the first year of any new design is bad news almost guaranteed (I have a manufacturing background). I wouldn't buy one, I would rather wait for the new C6 Z06 if I was going to go domestic and put the extra cash savings into tuning the Z06 to eat the GT.

I am not into paying over sticker, so I doubt I would get a first year car anyway

You better have FU money if you want one of the first ones b/c they will want a lot. Not worth it over MSRP and questionable at $140-150. I'm in position to get one if all the planets align correctly. It will be hot initially and then calm down, a la GT-2's.

A dealer called me Friday and told me they had one coming and they were going to start the bidding at $250K. They had determined the market price was $300K. I told them they could keep it at that price and I would consider buying when they got reasonable. It's just not worth that kind of money.

The FORD GT should be extremely reliable. Lets not be car snobs.........the engineering resources and suppliers for the major components for the car reads like a "whos who" of Lemans/F1 and NASCAR racins. They use the Lysholm supercharger (Mercedes Benz uses these trick pieces too) Riccardo gearbox (AUDI R8 and other racecars use Riccardo) Aluminum body made in the UK, brakes ALCON/Brembo, seats Recaro, wheels BBS, .....................the entire cars is super hardcore and baddass.

I bet the engine puts out 550HP and FORD- ROUSH is being conservative on the output. You can bet a set of O2 sims and delete the cats and twist up the boost and you be in the 600HP/600lbft torque and have a 10second ride.

No matter all the lunacy in pricing & whatever...........its good to have a car like that come out............as it FORCES all the other manufacturers to ANTE up in the POWER department............and then it all trickles down to all us 6speeders.

Too bad the FORD GT & Lamborghini Gallardo arent enteerd in SPEEDVISION GT..........they had the time to have some teams enter these cars. What about Grand AM & AMLS.
have a great week.
Joe
