Oil Analysis
I'm bored, so I'm going to start doing this with my cars. Anyone else do the same? It'd be interesting to compare data. Here are the results from my 2002 996TT from Blackstone Labs:
Pennzoil 5W40 synthetic w/ 2500 miles (28500 miles on the car when I drew the sample):
Aluminum 3
Chromium 1
Iron 14
Copper 21
Lead 2
Tin 0
Molybdenum 18
Nickel 1
Manganese 0
Silver 0
Titanium 0
Potassium 2
Boron 18
Silicon 5
Sodium 4
Calcium 1406
Magnesium 846
Phosphorus 803
Zinc 974
Barium 0
My copper level is more than double the universal average of 10, but I've done some googling and it seems other 996 Turbos have high copper levels too. Any engine gurus want to chime in on the normality or lack thereof of high copper in the oil? Anything to be concerned about?

Wow. UOAs are such a powerful tool for monitoring motor wear and oil performance, I'd have expected much more discussion!
Anyone looking for expert help with analysis, I highly recommend Terry Dyson- very knowledgeable- dysonanalysis.com
I run UOAs on my M5 with every change, other cars every other change. (No 996 yet)
Iron may be valve train- copper may be valve guides/bushings.
Good stuff
