I'd try to come depending on the dates.

Deal's Gap can be pretty crowded on Friday-Sunday if the weather is nice, no matter what time of year it is. Planning on a Thursday at a minimum wouldn't be a bad idea.

I am in - either April or November looks good as of right now. I have some pretty crazy deadlines for work in November but hopefully we can schedule around them.

KPV,

I would love to come but need 2-3 weeks to plan and coordinate. April would be beautiful but Max also makes a good point for November. I am open to anything, If you need help with registration materials, specialty logo-wear, or the like, let me know. I am helping Buddy with the Chicago meet and would be glad to help out.

It's hard to say for me right now since im going to be a new father in about a month...baby responsibilities must come first!

With that said, I would agree that November would be ideal for me. It's my slow season and by that time, my little baby would be 8 months old....in day care and a little less maintenance! LOL!

Great idea KPV. April is great weather up here in the NC Mtns.November is also generaly good too. The plan for November could be that as Max/Sloth wants to fly up and borrow one one my cars,he could take the lead in my Ford F250 Diesel with the Snow Plough attached....just in case.... We can then all follow him... Kidding aside April or Nov works for Max and I. Count our two cars as a go
Thanks Dad. How about a compromise... we attach the plow to the Cayenne TT.

I keep hearing a lot of calls for April. So long as its not over the weekend of the 24th... going to Rennsport Reunion in Daytona. Also consider that the weekend of April 3 is the PCA club race at Road Atlanta.

My biggest concern with any date is the amount of traffic. I am making an assumption that most/all of you guys have work positions that afford you some flexibility. That said, I would like to make the dates such that our TOD drive occurs on a weekday rather than a weekend. This way, we will not have to deal with crowds and the videographer can do his job well.

I will go to great lengths to attend regardless of the date, but prefer summer. It's easier for my wife and I to get away during the week with the kids out of school. Summer in the NC mountains makes for some great top down motoring for those with convertibles. Don't forget that April showers bring spring flowers. Fall foilage brings slow poke tourists. Summers are usually pretty dry in NC. Let's not have another weather problem. 318 curves in 11 miles are best enjoyed with hot, sticky tires on bone dry pavement!

Tail of the Dragon - Deal's Gap

We drove the Tail of the Dragon at Deal's Gap last year and really had a blast. Five Boxster owners drove down from Washinton DC on Thursday, arrived and drove it on Friday, as well as many of the surrounding roads. We were very lucky as we arrived just after the big flood and only a few of the local roads were closed but the drive on the Tail of the Dragon was wonderful. We dove it both ways, with no other cars or bikes on the road. I followed a set up Boxster S with my street Boxster S and we drove it from the Tennessee side in about 14 + minutes.

This will be a very difficult drive for a turbo, as there are virtually no straights and the corners are extremely sharp and narrow. It really is a bikers' paradise, but the mid engine Boxster is almost perfect. Actually, my MINI Cooper S might even be faster, although it will need some mods, especially increased power to pull out of the corners, especially up hill.

Have a blast and be careful, the road can be extremely dangerous - you cannot see if there is traffic approaching from the opposite direction.

I have linked some of the photos we took - the Rain Forrest Green Boxster S is mine.

Ken

Don't plan around me but if it is during the week I am out. Unfortunatly I do not make money when I am not at work so it costs too much money to take time off work in the middle of the week. Thurs to Sun works for me. As I said earlier don't plan around me.
