GT2 intercoolers?

Just wondering who has them and/or if anyone knows much about them with greater HP Turbos. I know there's a formula of sorts where you take ambient temps outside, intake temps and then cooler efficiency but all I know and/or have found out is that GT2 ic's are supposedly 10% more efficient. My rear end is off and I have the opportunity to do a swap so just seeking advice. I've heard larger ICs can induce some lag but then again, I can't tell the difference other than fin design and as far as I can tell there's no difference in size?

Thanks in advance.

No difference other than mount and part number. I even cut a set apart. Just the cost is more.

Stephen,
They aren't larger? More fins? More coils? Nothing? Just different part number and mounting bracket?

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for the VERY honest reply. I really appreciate that All the research I did led to just some mere marketing term that the ICs were 10% more efficient but I couldn't figure out why- I thought the find design was slightly improved or somethng but sounds to me like it'd be a waste of money on my part... They're never going to be as efficient as FMICs.

I cannot believe that Porsche would misrepresent that. Is it possible the different mounting brackets free an additional 10% of coiling fin area? Maybe the standard brackets shadow the coils somewhat? Any validity to this? For them to claim 10%, there must be something! Maybe the mounting angle of the IC's is slightly different improving airflow through the unit, similar to the GT2 front radiator being tilted forward. Huh? Huh? What do you think?

Again, I really appreciate the honesty. You've saved me some extra cash and hassle and no doubt some others too...

I just got this from Todd at EVO, after passing him the
post on intercoolers:

> >>The intercoolers are different. The fins on the intercooler protrude past
> >>the tubed core 3.2mm more than the Stock intercoolers. This extra fin
> >>area helps in the efficency of the cooler. Porsche claims 10% better
> >>cooling. I would agree with them.

Do you still have the pieces, Stephen? Is it possible to check this?
thanks to all,
Joe

The X-50 and turbo intercoolers are different. I suggest you look again more closely. The X-50/GT2 intercoolers are in fact 5% more efficient. Doesn't sound like much, however this is a huge number as far as intercooler efficiency goes.
