Tire pressure on the track ?

What do you guys recommend...my style of driving prefers the rear to come out a tad bit... instead of having understeer, which is what this car has....

usually i run 32 front and 36 rear -- (cold)

anyone have other suggestions

should i go lower ? higher?

thanks!

Enrique

Need to know tire sizes and type. But in general if at the track those pressures are ok to start with but depends on temp outside. If it is cool ie less than 60 than ok if warmer those cold temps would be too high.
My findings on various tires with this car at the track is the rears heat way up!!
As much as ten pounds after a hard run on a hot day.
Bottom line is ok to start there but then immediately check them in the hot pit before cool down.
Another in general for this car and for the tires for a car at this weight would be to have the tires NO higher than 40psi when hot. Depending on the tire type you may even want to go lower.
If you tell us the size and type and compound we could be more help ie MPS2 vs Cups versus Hoosier, what ya got?
Also you dont manage understeer in these cars by having the car run loose due to lose of grip in the rear tires, you need to do it by suspension mods. tom

Thanks guys for the replies!

I have the stock tires
Pirellis p-zero

For now that's what i have to work with. I'm going to Pahrump (spl?) in Vegas next week. When i was at laguna seca, 32/36 seem okay... hot it would be around 35/38 from what i experience... but i still heard alot of tire squeak...and i felt a lack of grip or else i could have gone quicker...you guys need anymore info ?

My 18" Pilot Cups I ran 32 front and 30 rear. Then I switched it to be harder in the rear doing 32 34? That is cold. Just get a good starting point and adjust to see how you like the car to handle!

PS 1000 POSTS!!!!!

Now that I know your tire and the situation I would tell you this. You are driving at the limits of your street tires and they are communicating that fact to you. Your temps are ok and you are driving hard, the squeal and loss of grip is what you get with a street tire, they are talking to you!!
sounds like you may be ready to move up to an R compound tire.
If so or if you do you must understand that although the grip will be exponentially better, you will loose that communication to some extent.
The tires will hold to very close to the limit and then give away more suddenly and without the communication. That is why they are good and bad to the newer track driver.
You sound like you are ready for R compound as a next move. I like the michelin Cup tires or toyo RA-1's. I would stay away from Hoosiers for now, more about them latter if you need.

BTW, thanks for the rep try that was nice of you.
tom
