997 GT3's and RS's use the same front wheels.

The standard GT3 uses a 12/68 wheel. A spacer (3/4"/18mm) would be needed to achieve the same dimension.

The RS uses a 8.5 width/ 53mm offset front and the 996tt uses a 8.0/ 50mm front. So the RS wheels are 1/4" wider on each side compared to the 996tt, but the RS offset is 3mm(1/8") less agressive. Subtract the wheel width from the offset and the RS fronts extend 1/8" further out than the 996tt wheels.

Use the same formula for the rears:
RS=12/51 and the TT=11/45. RS wheels are 1/2" wider on each side that the TT wheel, but have 6mm (1/4") less agressive offset. So the RS wheels extend 1/4" further out than the TT wheels.

What type of spacer do I need to run the RS wheels on the 996GT2?

The GT2 uses a 12"/45mm offset rear wheel. Its 1/2" wider on boths side, but the same offset as a 996TT wheel. A 3, 5, 7 or 11mm spacer will work if you desire the same GT2 look.

Dammit, I didn't weigh the RS wheels before mounting the tires. I think they're about the same weight though.

Question

so has anyone reached a conclusion yet whether or not the 997 GT3 or GT3RS wheels will fit the 996TT?
I'd rather have the GT3 wheels because I don't want black/orange wheels, i'd rather just have silver.
Will the 997 GT3 wheels fit my 996TT?

Zona just answered your question. Scroll above...you'd need spacers to make it fit.

yea i was reading it, but there was another post before where the guy said brandywine porsche said the GT3 wheels will not fit.
So what's the difference between the GT3/RS wheels? If the RS wheels will fit WITHOUT spacers, i'd rather use those and just have them powder coated another color.
I'm not a big fan of spacers.

You will need a spacer to fit 997GT3/RS on a 996TT/GT2. Here's what I got from Gert
Front : 997GT3/GT3RS 8,50 x 19 ET53 : 11,14Kg 24.5lbs
Rear: 997GT3RS 12 x 19 ET51 : 14 kg = 30.8 lbs

It looks like the 997GT3RS wheels should fit without spacers, and the 997GT3 wheels will fit with spacers in the rear. Where can I get 997GT3RS wheels? I'd even take 997GT3 wheels if someone is selling them.

rwm514,

Ask Kyle at Brandywine to look up the sizes of the Sport Techno wheels that were an optopn on the 996TT's. They were 18x11 with a 63mm offset. The factory instlled 18mm spacers for these wheels. The GT3 19x12/ 68mm wheel will work with the same size spacer. It has 5mm less offset with an additional 1/2" per side width wheel.

You will require a 5mm spacer on the rear when fitting 997 GT3RS wheels to a 996TT. This ensures clearance at the inner guard. I was looking to purchase the GT3RS wheels, however same across a great second hand set of 997 GT3 wheels. These are currently in transit LA to Australia. I will be running a 23mm spacer on the rear. Tires will be F 235 / R 315. Will post pics once they are fitted. Hope this info helps.
