Turbos on track
Turbos on track
I'm starting to see a lot of folks with pics of their turbos on the track, is there any way to merge them so we have a thread with them. I thought it might be a good Idea because I love the track pics and have some to add.
If not, then this is my Turbo at Road Atlanta.
Chasing superstalker, passed him and left him but his fastest lap was .05 faster than mine, I shoulda stayed on track. I left the track because my only goal was to beat my previous best of 1:40 and I ran 1:38 so I stopped after four laps two of which were 1:39. All on pirelli assimetricos. Next mod is R compounds (and a roll bar)

This is the warm-up lap on my first ever time trial session, and look where I end up, behind two race cars, one of which I passed (flew by on the back straight)

my favorite pic from the weekend.

hmmm...would be really cool subsection...
most people think THE porsche to track in is the GT3 just because of the way it is marketed...and it IS a great track car...but in ways and on certain tracks, a set up turbo can be KING...the grip and power just cannot be beat...the gearing makes long straights (ala VIR) gigantic, multiple car passing zones and the RWD characteristics let one drive the car with RWD in mind with a bit of help from the front when times get a bit hairy...
Wow...we kinda have sister cars...haha
great pics man!

heavychevy and ColorChange, those big pics look awesome!
Got some track pics of Turbos in our Photos section (check signature link).
Here's a couple of examples:
Friend's 996TT tuned by Techart, one of the fastests driver/driver combinations in this country when talking about road cars and "civil" drivers:

From the Nürburgring (now this place is full of GT2s and GT3s...not a lot of Turbos):
A black 996TT with what seems to be GT3 RS rear wing:

A Turbo S tuned in the famous Manthey Racing:

Me with red gloves on different tracks:

If you are going to track your turbo just make sure you address the understeer issue because off camber turns will hurt you big time. May want to invest in some GT3 cup brake ducts as well, especially if it's hot, the weight of the turbo will cook your brakes and maybe some hawk pads for the track.
I'm lucky because at my RA
we have lots of straights and only three low speed turns 3,7,10a the rest is straights and fast turns so the GT3's dont have much of an advantage here. With some decent tires the only GT3's I'll have to consider are the cup cars, and only the faster ones at that. I'm gonna try some different tracks though to see how I can adjust to more technicality. I thought about trying RWD but it's not benificial unless you have sticky tires because you'll be spinning the tires all day. The torqu combined with AWD just rockets you out of corners (when you're not understeering), and I love that.
