996 Turbo or 997?

Hi guys, I'm fairly new here and have been looking to buy my first Pcar for a month or two now. I had originally been looking at early 997s but have realized that for about the same money I can get a 996turbo. Question is whether I'm misleading myself with cost to buy vs. cost to own. How expensive are the running costs on the turbos vs. the non-turbo cars for typical maintenance items (e.g. brakes, oil change). Is it a material difference? Also, how is the general reliability on the turbos? If I buy an 02 with 30k on it am I immediately looking at significant expenses (e.g. new clutch etc.)? I've found a lot of great information on this forum and appreciate your help. Thanks

Mike

I don't think the cost associated with owning the turbo are really anymore than a NA car. The turbo is so much more fun and easily modded to whatever you want it to be. Throw an exhaust, suspension and engine tuning and you will have a real beast!

Lots of 996tt's to choose from at very reasonable prices.

I agree with Buddy. The depreciation alone during the first 2 years of ownership of a new 997 would far outweigh almost any possible maintenance issue with the 996TT. Bang for the buck - I don't think you can beat the 996 at this point - at least in the P-car world.

Good point. I hadn't really considered the depreciation issue. Excellent, Smithers...excelllent.... Anyone want to sell me their black 996TT? A private party deal would save me several grand in sales tax due to the anamolies of Georgia law.
