I believe the 996 will go down historically as the cost efficient p-car that changed the way they built cars with extensive parts sharing between it and the Boxster. I also think it's a technically superior platform in almost all respects to the prior models but I think the lines of the car (and its similarity to the less expensvie Boxster) are a big part of the reason that the 996 models are not maintaining their value.
To my eye, the 997 brings back more of the "classic" Porsche style and I believe it will end up as a more "loved" model line than the 996.
Having said all that - I still want a 996TT - because right now it's an incredible platform at an amazing price!
These are both beautiful cars. The changes that were made on the 997 were too subtle for me to want to run out and get one. It seems that Porsche wanted a change but nothing too drastic. I wonder if this will be the case with the 998?
