I will keep it simple. Do what YOU guys need to do to keep the site running smooth. Anything that will provide quailty to the site and reduce stress in yours is fine by me. I have no issues with what ever choice you guys make. I am on many boards that ban unkown accounts. Once in a while one floats in. But it does make for a more quality board.
Well said.... Do what it takes...

No dont do it -- it will be the first step toward turning into a certain German-run board that we all left in the first place!

I second the "this is a stupid worthless thread" check box idea. Makes a lot of sense and not that difficult to implement.

Another idea would be to charge a small registration fee, even say $1. "Outsiders" who just wanted to post a quick "Porsche sucks - let's race - my car is better than your car" type message wouldn't go through the hassle of pulling out their credit card, having to provide their real name to process the credit card, etc.

I personally use my hotmail account for almost everything, even work. Many times when I have not been able to use my hotmail account for other things on the net I just say forget it. You might also run off "other" people that really dont want to be known.....like Jerry.

how about membership by approval process only? you get to screen the applicants like a country club.

i think ferrarichat also has a system where members can be banned by taking a vote count.

6speedonline premium membership, like the 'other' site, may not be a bad idea... it would help you guys to keep the site running decreasing the dependence on sponsors.

Of course, Shootout participants get lifetime status, right?

I don't think you should ban yahoo and hotmail accounts since I am here with hotmail account and I am here to contribute in the forums and not trying to screw up this awesome forums.

No one is going to pay for what they can get other places for free. Premium membership that is paid for is a nail in 6speeds coffin.

I would like to second Hamann7's thought. That is don't necessarily ban the anonymouse users but have an approval process for them. I think that it wouldn't hurt someone's feelings if you were to request this and check acceptability before admittance. And I wouldn't lime accpetance to whether or not they had a Porsche or Twin Turbo or whatever. We get good ideas from the other enthusiasts out there from time to time.

Okay, that's my 2 cents!

I would suggest removing the thread. People who posts threads like "race my audi" or say crap like my lambo is faster than your modded porsche are just simply ignorant and trying to make up for lack of who knows what...So remove the thread and hit them up with a warning and if they continue, then ban them.

A Vote To Delete button would be the best IMHO. Set the VTD button to about 15 votes, once 15 people have VTD the thread, poof, it disappears.

I made a suggestion not too long ago for members to have thier first names in thier signature so we know who we are talking to. Not a big deal but I thought it would be nice.

As for people that join like a few this week and post pointless threads that are about off topic cars about racing Porsches, then it starts to get insulting and out of hand, I think those threads should be deleted to keep the quality of the board to a nice standard.

Its like anything else there is good then there is bad.

i am definitely against banning hotmail, yahoo, etc accounts.

Like many others i would assume, i have a work account and a hotmail account for personal stuff. I try to keep the two as seperate as possible. I would not want to be forced to get messages from a car board in my work account.

-Steve
My scenario exactly... I do not want to get personal emails to my work address. I always feel like "Big Brother" in the IT department is looking over my shoulder.

Like they did at the other board... how about a proper address for registration, but the ability to change to a different address once registration is confirmed.

Regards,
Max

How about....

instead of Deleting a thread,
just Closing it down so that NO other posts can occur?

I also vote for keeping the Yahoo accounts welcome.

Btw: GREAT job on this site!!!

I'm down with whatever you decide. Those silly racing and Porsche bashing posts are annoying. Most are posted by some high school kids trolling and just looking for attention.
