We've been chasing the setup all week.

Several reasons:

We did not get a test day prior to the event so we did not get to bed in our brakes or scrub in our tires nor adjust the suspension.

The limited slip diff has more lock requiring a shock adjustment to compensate.

The shocks have not been rebuilt since before the 2006 One Lap. The shim stacks are a little weak and we needed to increase the rebound.

Tires are new but last years leftovers. They don't seem to have as much grip as a fresh set and we have had to radically change our tire pressures to make them work.

Since we have so little track time we've been making one adjustment at a time. It took 3 days to figure out.

Tomorrow will be good. Mark likes Hallet but Brian is VERY fast there also. IF it is wet tomorrow it will be good for us (it's raining here at the hotel 30 miles from the track)

Ok folks keep watching. I don't know if we can win this thing but we're going to have a nice margin over 3rd place for sure.

I talked with John and he said they were having shock issuesk, hopefully that will be cleared up today. I'd like to see a no excuses heads up race between the two of you, both cars in top form etc.

btw, I believe they are driving the car to each track. Are you guys driving it or trailering it behind the bus the whole time?

Talking Heads up at Hallett

We smoked everyone at Hallett!

We've still got a few tweeks to make to the setup to make it perfect but the car was really good and Mark was really good. Brian admitted that he was backing off just a bit to save the car by not grabbing second gear in the really slow corners but . He was really driving pretty hard using the curbing on the track outs. All he has to do is come in second place and we can't catch him in the points chase. Amusingly Mark made th comment that the car was "on fire" and he really didn't take any chances. The car just hooked up and went like a fireball.

Our times and Brian's times were quite a bit faster than the rest of the field.

We were able to run the car very low on fuel on the way to Hallett. That combined with the availability of 104 octane unleaded allowed us to try the race fuel program and it made a noticable difference in reducing turbo lag. This made it very easy for Mark to drive the car out of the corners using 3rd gear instead of having to grab second gear.

Brian is indeed having issues with one of the rear dampers losing it's nitrogen charge but it does not seem to be leaking so fast that it hurts his on track performance. It seems to be more of an issue during the transit stages, mostly because they are towing a small U-Haul trailer and the rear tire keeps rubbing on the body.

We're at IRP today (now it's ORP) and we have two time trials, the low ET drag race and the bracket eliminations.

We're really tired and overfueled the car last night so we wont' be able to use the race gas program un til at least the second time trial.

The race for the chase is on; but somebody forgot to reset Brian's points

What kind of mods are on this car? And is it still AWD? I know that STI is fast, so you must be moving to beat it.

He said that if it rains tomorrow at the track it would be good for them,
so it must be all wheel drive. I am also curious with the set-up and who
set it up?? I believe it is an 01 or 02 Silver 996TT? Good luck to them
they have very tough competition! I love the beetle and the Honda Odyssee
Minivan.

I worked pretty closely with Honda on that minivan. The engine is nuts. All custom pipework and suspension. They said it would be good for 140+ on straights.

Check the caliper clearance out. This is after a 5mm spacer!

Talking We've mved into the lead

The viper ate it's clutch and DNFed. That put is in a very good lead.

We also won the drag race. 11.85 @ 125 mph with a very soft, don't break anything launch.

For those that are asking the car is AWD and it helps a great deal when running street tires. All of the time trials are from a standing start. It also makes the car much easier to control on power coming out of corners.

Someone asked earlier about the transit to and from the tracks. We are living in this car all week. We only tow it out to the start of the event and then bak afterward. During the week every mile is driven in the car.

MK what do you want to know about the setup?

The work on the car is performed by Fairfield County Motorsport www.FairfieldCountyMotorsport.com where I work. I am not a tech but I have done a lot of the wrenching on this car. My IT guy is loading the pics I send into a web gallery.

Some basic info on the car:

2001 996 Turbo

As of today almost 49,000 miles most of which are from the 6 One Laps it has run.

Engine
K24 Turbos, Evo headers, custom unmuffled exhaust with cats, Evo v-flow intake, Evo turbo inlet pipes. Evo/GIAC stage 4 program, modified wastegate actuators, billet DVs, Evo silicone hose kit.

Brakes:
Front: StopTech 355X32 with ST40 4 piston calipers
Rear: Stock

Suspension: Double adjustable remote reservoir dampers with linear rate springs.

Wheels: Fikse Profil 13 18x10" front 18x12" rear
Tires: 275-35-18 front 315-30-18 rear Michelin Pilot Sport PS2

Last Time we were one the dyno I think we made 520 whp and 580 wtq
