First drag pass in Protomotive GT2
Scott,
It is true that you can launch these cars safely but you really have to baby them otherwise you get wheel hop. Wheel hop is potentially catastrophic. That doesn't mean that I don't respect those who have the guts and finances to drag race these cars, I am just not one of them. I prefer the 60-130 (plus) and track events.
A car w/ a trap speed of 135 should be running low 10's. The low 10 requires pushing it hard on the start and it is no surprise that the only Porsche in our group to get close to breaking into the nines also broke its axles.
When I was younger we used to always race from a stop (IE drag race) and a can say w/ some authority that the Porsche is a great car but not really designed for racing from a stop. Drag racing a Porsche, even more so than tracking, is a rich mans game.

Jamie,
Wonderful trap and it is cool to see guys post thier first times (I will as well,
and I am sure I will not break any NHRA or 6speed records). I believe you
werre talking about the other Joe, (Bigger Joe with GT2: Worlds Fastest),
Where is Big Joe lately, he is awfully quiet??? Nice trap speed, you are running about the same as DMK did (134-137 mph).

Thanks everyone. I didn't build this car to drag race, but it's nice to see that I could break into the 10's with little effort and a few more passes. Not bad for a nice weather daily driver
Wes, you need to get a GT2! Although RS's are very cool...it was the only other car I seriously considered last year before I bought the GT2....I felt I would get bored pretty quickly with a N/A Porsche. That being said, if I could get a new 6 spd M5 to do this, I would sell the GT2 in a heartbeat. But fitting turbo's under that motor is not easy or cheap
Sharky, I'll email you after my lunch meeting tomorrow at SFO. Look forward to hooking up!
Kevin, Norwalk is a great track! Since this was a AWD DSM rental, track prep was purposely kept to a minimum to lesson the carnage.
Marty, correct, I was joking about the world's quickest & fastest GT2, but both Joe's are quite fast.

turbo M5's not easy or cheap but it's possible! i saw one with the turbos mounted in the back by the exhaust tips! i think it was putting out only 800hp or so though, so not sure if it's really worth it!
Again, awesome trap!
Again, awesome trap!
wow those are some impressive trap speeds! how did you do on your roll on races with the TT Viper in Houston at the Supra event. i heard you guys were back and forth. thats amazing given the fact that the Viper dyno'd around 1000 rw hp at the supra dyno event. cant beat the 996TT as an overall performance machine!

Very nice!! That's about where I was my 1st few times at the track. The GT2 seems like it's harder to launch because of the suspension.
Nothing like having a 10second car that tears up the roadcourse too, huh
