Why doesn't Porsche have an F1 team?

Wow, you've had a bad experience. lol
You shouldn't be surprised by Ben's response on a Porsche board when you comment on Porsche reliability which is in fact, one of Porsche's strong points. (It's notably better than BMW btw)
So, immediately, you see the signature and there lies the underlying issue. Are you surprised he attacked your car? He had a good point when you make an off-base comment on Porsche reliability, then drive a car notarious for its horrible reliability.
Note: he is a Porsche driver and is the soon-to-be owner of a Carrera GT. I worry that that car may not run well though. You know... Porsches just have poor reliability. lol

Sounds fun huh? I narrowly miss him and roll to a stop in a big muddy marsh in the median. Next thing the cop yanks me outta the car and throws me in his car saying I am under arrest for attempted assualt on a LEO...

Sounds to me like Tommy fell asleep at the wheel and is trying to blame it on his car? With those kind of reactions and instincts I'm glad he switched to BMW and likely won't see him on the track. As for reliability, this Tommy V. guy doesn't deserve a reasonable response. As for the prototype class, the Daytona Prototypes do have Porsche involvement. BTW, that was partly Hurley Haywood's idea to have identical welded (NASCAR) frames and bring the cost of high power racing down and within specs. I think the cars look good and there is a lot of interest from many diff't groups. With regard to the F1 question, I agree the the ROI is bad. BTW, Tommy, I couldn't help but notice your posts have a kind of hostility to them. Do you have issues?

Hey Tommy V, I would like to add to the CART screw up. Porsche Motorsport supposidly got he ok from the GOOD OLD BOYS who ran CART. Penske(a$$hole), Foyt, Haas, Patrick, etc.....
Porsche had properly prepared , as CART wanted, in writing the complete specs of there car. To Porsches suprize and stupidity, the board shot down the in house designed chassis that Porsche had made with their engine. The other teams knew they were screwed if they let Porsche run this car. In time, it would have dominated CART for some time. Yes, even with Teo Fabi. Who some how one a race for Porsche at Mid Ohio.
With the crappy LOLA chassis, Porsche had no choice but to see the year out with the suprize win at Mid Ohio.
F1. Well,.... here it's a little different, but results the same. Porsche could have continued on after winnng the Champiopnship with Prost. Apparantly, the $$$$ aspect of things did not pan out for what they wanted. Porsche wanted to have Senna drive for them. The deal got complicated when Honda entered the game and blew the whole deal.
In 1990, When I worked for Porsche, we were inivited to the Montreal Grand Prix by Porsche AG. Hell, should have stayed home. The only good thing about being there, was meeting Ayrton Senna. He had a few choice words for the Porsche F1 effort with Footworks that made me laugh. If I recall , something like " hey Mr. Porsche, maybe you guys can qualify last on the grid no ? That's if you have any engines left" The motors were grenading half way through practice. Not a nice seen , very embarrasing.
We talked about how Footwork rushed Porsche to the level where they were not ready to have a competative team or car. That bitter taste still lingers around Stuttgart with some of the old timers.
The sponsorship, money, drivers R&D, is all inplace for an F1 team. But as we all know, the F@$#ING accountants who now run Porsche , are not remotley interested at the moment of any F1 idea. They can't agree on a least expensive factory effort for sports car racing !! Hence the Carrera GT Lemans effort in the sewer !!

P.S. Speaking of Senna, watched the 1994 race at Imola when he died. Truely , still a very sad deal 10 years later ..........
