Well their going in a Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. I was thinking about adding a sub a little later and for now have the quart tweeters up on the dash and front door speakers in.

What amp would you recommend me for the RCE216/PCE216's. ?
I wont be playing dvd's or such in my car so the surround sound concept I will keep at my house.

Thanks for the replys.

Again, depends on what you want. If you have excess money to throw around, I'd go with McIntosh amps www.mcintoshlabs.com These are true audiophile quality products, and if sound quality is your goal, that's as far as you need to go.

For those of us, like myself, who don't want to spend that much, I've been very happy with Memphis Audio amps. Their studio series amps are incredible, have a very small footprint, and are actually pretty cheap at about $0.60-$1 a watt. I have a 300 watt 4 channel and a 1,000 watt 1 channel both under my driver's seat right now, and there's plenty of clearance.

Now, if you want just front speakers, I'd get a 150x2. If you're not sure about how many speakers you want, I'd get the 300x4, as this would let you expand in the future. For subs, it depends on how much you want. I have a JL audio 12W6v2, and my 1K amp pushes it perfectly. If you want just enough bass to fill in the bottom ends, I'd get a JL 10W3v2 and a Memphis 500D.

When I had my 4runner, I was still living in dorms at Hill AFB, so my truck was where I watched movies. I had a 17" flat panel monitor that folded down from the ceiling. I'm doing a little better now that I have a house and a wife with expensive taste.

MB Quarts are very harsh ... sound incredible but when you want to listen to some good vocals there is a slight crackle in the highs ... I hear nothing but good things about Focals ..

Dario

Oops, I have quarts in my car now ...

focal utopias no doubt...there are some other brands you should look at...scanspeak, seas, rainbow, etc.

dynaudio - too mellow for me
mb quarts - metal tweeters, the sound is wayyy to harsh...utopias replicate the best sound out of your choices IMO. I much prefer silk tweeters over metal. so does the majority of the audiophiles.

remember, it is also what amp you decide to run and the way your system is setup and tuned. from my experience (i've experienced with quite a bit of brands from my history), i would reccomend audison, mcintosh, butler (mostly the older ones) audison, diamond (D9 series, incredible distortion rate, i believe it's .003 which is unheard of), zapco competition series or art series (art is oldschool good luck trying to find them! but they are bad *** and I will bow down to you if you can find your whole setup), treo, dynaudio.

but like i said, you can have a mediocre brand setup and have it done right and outsound your highend brand parts with a crap install.

I would also put my vote down for Focal. I got a nice Focal setup in my M3 and it sounds amazing.

Get a four channel amp that can run in three channel mode. This will let you bridge the two back channels to run a sub. Get a JL10W3, you can get them already in the box. That will provide enough bass to fill in the lower octaves and cover the road noise.

change out your tweeters and get some silk ones..

as for sub, if you're going for SQ here's a few suggestion: jl w6, image dynamics idq, ed, brahma, alpine type R, treo, morel, and the BEST: focal Utopia's....wx27 (11" for around 800) or wx33 (13" for around 1000)....there are tons more out there...but if you dont want to shell out money for focal subs...my choices out of those would be idq or w6.

Good website for discounted car audio gear. www.onlinecarstereo.com

I still think that if you're going to do a minimal install on a small budget, you should get a W3. The sub isn't as expensive, and a W6 will require its own amp, vs. bridging two channels of a four channel amp.

I'm just partial to JL. Also, have you had luck buying electronics off eBay? I had a friend that kept getting bad parts. There's really no way to know if the amp you're buying has been abused or not. He might have just had bad luck though.

Speaker Models

Great info on the various speakers!! I have a detailed question: which part numbers MBQ or Focal - mount in the stock locations on a '01 996? I want to replace the Door speaker, the Dash Panel speakers, and the Rear Side Panel Speakers. AMP will be added. I may add Sub Woofer Enclosure to replace the carpet panel that covers the electronics in the back - any ideas on this also?
Thanks!!

I might go with focals in my BMW. For my 2000 Jeep grand cherokee the mbquarts I already have are going in. I am saving stock head unit and cd player. Just getting amp and speakers put in and possibly adding a sub later.

Speakers

KPV - as others have stated, very impressive install, top notch!!
I did get the model number off of the small drivers, but can't quite read the rest. Can you give me an inventory list of the speakers, AMP and Head Unit? I may not go as far as you did, but I am tempted. I would like to upgrade the speakers all round and add some base. Thank you!
