So far it is bullet proof!
I have the Hitachi MAF. Works great!!! As others have observed, a new tune is required. The good news is that, with the Hitachi MAF, EVOMS can extract additional power with the new tune.

Interesting that Proto is also using the Hitachi MAF. I know that Todd has customed designed a modified Mustang MAF for most of his cars (Proto charges 1K for this MAF). How does the Hitachi compare w/ the Proto MAF, and what is the cost?
I am still waiting for an EVO (or other vendor) to offer a line-item
product: "Hitachi MAF conversion (hardware and tuning) $XYZ"
It sounds like the added sensitivity/range of the Hitachi MAF
allows a tuner to get more power. Can anyone say whether
this would be true for all 996tts?
thanks
