I was floored when I saw the dealer Black Book/trade value of a 2001 Turbo...

I was just at my buddy's BMW dealership and in his dealer black book, the 2001 911 Turbo shows a wholesale/trade value of $72,500.00 My God, its decreased like $8000 in only a couple months. Good news for those looking for an 01 though. Should be able to get one for mid-upper 70's. WOW!!

And could someone please explain why the 993 C2S and C4S are still so expensive or is that the usual inflated pano prices?

If you have to worry about the depreciation being excessive, then you really can't afford to own the car.

Why is a 993TT and 996TT approaching the same price? Here's something I found on another board that I think explains that the best:

"My 04 GT 2 has not arrived but using my old 02 GT 2, as a basis of comparison if I had to pick one car to keep it would be the 97 turbo S.
To me it's looks capture the best Porsche ever built.
It's interior looks and smells like a Porsche.
When you shut the doors on any pre 996 911 it feels solid.
The 993 turbos combine all the old and new of 40 years of 911.
The 993 turbos can be modified to keep up with any 996.
993 turbos provide more driver feedback than the 996 cars.
993 turbos hold their value.
993 turbo to me is the classic 911.

A recent magazine called CAR voted the 993 turbo as the best sportscar ever built."

Also, Porsche made much less 993TTs than 996TTs.

the 993 is in higher demand because they didn't pump them out the way Keebler elves make cookies

It really amazes me that a Ruf modified 993 TT with only two cams, two valves/cylinder, no Variocam and no water (elegant simplicity and reliability!) can do 128 MPH in the quarter!

Porsche Panorama magazine (May 1998) says 6,418 993 Turbos were built for the planet. How many 996 Turbos were built to date?

It wasn't a particular car, it was the dealer black book that they consult for trade-in value. What is interesting is that the turbo would even be in there. Up to two months ago, the turbo wholesale price was not listed. The book cannot report values unless there is a lot of data. In years past the Porsche 911 turbo would not even appear because of lack of data. For instance, right now, the SL55 AMG is not listed becuase of lack or varying data. For them to publish a number for the turbo means that they have solid numbers. It is disturbing to say the least. Porsche, you listening, quit whoring the brand and producing too many cars. Supply outpacing demand is never a good thing!

Porsche could care less about the resale value of our cars. They are going to do whatever they think is best for their bottom line. There was obviously a lot of demand for 996TTs otherwise they wouldn't have sold so many, right?

Of coarse, but demand obviously waned quickly as 2003 is a perfect oversupply year. If supply were more limited in 2001, the demand would have carried over into 2002, and 2003. Its unfortunate. I have even seen the supposed untouchable 911 tt cab in two local showrooms, where's the demand? The SL55 still has wait lists! If Porsche had slown supply in 2001, the frenzy would have grown and carried the demand through the end of the 996 model. Using the M5 as an example, you really couldn't easily get a new one until late 2002, early 2003. Hell, I bought my M5 through my BMW dealer friend and traded it through the dealer in late 2002 for more than I paid. A full three model years later!
