Battery Charger Failure / Can't start car

I am in the process of moving to a new condo and left the car with the in-laws until I move into my new place. Of course, in my haste, I left the V1 on in my car. When I went to retreive it this morning, the battery was dead. I jumped it and it started fine and I drove around for about an hour and parked it. Went back to make sure that the battery was okay and the car started fine but the error "Battery Charger Failure" was on the dash. I also noticed that the power steering was out. Left it running for a bit and the car just died. Now I cannot turn it on. Any ideas? Fuse? Voltage regulator? The car is down in South Jersey with my in-laws which is pretty far from my dealer in PA. My car is an '01 TT w/ 35K miles.

Thanks!

If it is the original 01 battery... replace it.
If not, purchase a battery charger and give it an overnight charge at 2amps.

The fact that your radar detector killed your battery overnight tells me that your battery is likely shot anyway, so you may just want to replace the battery anyway.

They are junk! Buy a die hard forget the warranty from Porsche. I have had almost every new car in my shop kill the battery. Mine was fine and had been then one day went south. I picked up a Diehard and said forget it. Not a problem since.

It is not the original battery. The V1 was on for a week which caused this battery to die. It charged back fine, but died while the car was on.

My battery just died yesterday also can anyone tell me if there is any procedure to be aware of changing the battery or just change it like any other car?

With the "charger failure" and no power steering I'd think the belt came off.

Why does Porsche use a high maintenance battery vs. a sealed no-maintenance one??? I went to check the water level and all the cells are covered. The manual indicated that there is a full indication mark...I could not make it out...Can anyone describe what the indicator looks like when it's full so that I can top it off and not overfill??? Thanks

By belt, I guess you mean the accessory belt. I have not worked on this car at all, so can someone tell me how I can check this?

Thanks!

I checked the belt and it is indeed broken, however, it was caused by a broken pulley. I have attached two pics (the lower one showing the broken pulley). I can go get a replacement from the dealer, however, I do not know how to get the metal crossmember off to get at the bolt. Ideas?

Thanks!

Looks like the bearing siezed. Will the dealer fix it under warranty?

At this point, I am stuck. The car is over 100 miles from the dealer so I am going to order the parts, replace it and then take it to the dealer to have them check it.

I can't add. It turns out that Brandywine is just over the 50 miles that Porsche Roadside assistance can tow, but they are willing to overlook that. It should be on its way to the dealer tomorrow. Thanks!

So….. what did the dealer diagnose? How does this story end. Hope it’s a happy ending.
