IXXI Turbo is infamous around these parts
New to the board and have a few basic ?'s

Hello all,
I have been reading the board for awhile but I have a few questions. I currently own an 88' 911 and do all the work on her myself. However I know next to nothing about the newer cars. I installed a turbo on my car and she runs like a champ, however I would like something newer. I was looking to get a car that was moderately modded however I am now searching for low mileage unmolested cars, that I could make the changes exactly as I want.

Anyhow I have been reading about FVD and GIAC and was wondering if one reflash is better than the other and do they make more of a difference on an X50 car? And is an exhaust upgrade immediately necessary. I was looking @ the Europipe, but after the purchase of the car and a re flash and some new wheels. I will be kinda tapped out for a bit.

Does the car have to be taken to the dealership to read the computer for the info such as the type of over revs and how many...or is this info really that necessary. and to add to that. From what I was reading if you get the reflash they eliminate your rev limiter...if this is so, will that then eliminate you tripping the Type 1 over rev counter?

And lastly do the X50 cars have the 2nd gear pop out issue?

Thanks,

Phil

Phil, I'll try to answer some of your questions:

FVD and GIAC (along with some others) are your "generic flash"...not designed specifically with your exact mods in mind. They do work nicely and a good bang for the buck. They typically cost more for X50 and you will see nice improvement. You might also check out Kevin @UMW.

Exhaust is not necessary, but you will see bigger gains when you replace the stock...the back pressure for the stock units is fairly significant...EPs are a good choice and you will love the sound (my favorite mod to date).

Not sure I understand the question...you can get durametric software to read info stored in the ECU (like type 1 and 2 over revs.) Are you asking because you want this information when purchasing the car? Then CPO may be a good idea.

This is not true...you can get the rev limiter changed, but this is not part of the flashing you are asking about. You can not override the rev limit counter...although for the right amount of money you can probably get the over revs erased (not by a dealer though).

This is not related to standard, X50 or any other cause as far as I can tell...see here2nd gear popout
