Please stop opening threads 4 years old
I don't know what is going on, but it seems there are a rash of threads being reopened from 3+ years ago. If you want to read them for their content great (no need to post on them). If you have a new question great, open a new thread. Perhaps it is just me that finds this annoying

Not at all. I have read a few old threads. That is where a lot of the best information is found. If I feel like posting to them, I will do so. If I have a question I feel warrants a new thread, I will start one.
I mod elsewhere and find that adding to the old discussion is the most efficient instead of creating a new thread and expecting folks to regurgitate all the old background info, or - since the new thread lacks the background- it invites a retelling of old info.
It is worth the 'new poster' to acknowledge they know it is an old thread and placing the new request in context....
whatever I guess...

I agree with Shane on this. While the past few days have been annoying with nothing of value added to some of these old threads, I think posting to old in general is far better than writing a new thread. You keep the discussion rolling, make it easier on future searches, and avoid the dreaded warning to "use the search function dude".
I know I've revived a thread or two due to additional information to add, or questions that went unanswered then but the info is now available.
Not all of us were fortunate enough to be here 4 years ago. If it's an old and uninteresting thread for you maybe just moving on is the answer. Or maybe giving the tread-starters the ability to close their own threads would be better??

I agree most of the best info is found on older posts, I also agree that making a new post is sometimes valid....sometimes.Nothing pisses me off when i see someone ask a question that was covered in a previous post.Maybe some of the noobs are understandable but the search function is there for a reason.
