What can happen with too much oil?

I went to pick my car up from an oil change when I got down the road it started smoking like crazy, people were puling over asking if everything is ok and it got a "take to work shop". I looked and there was oil spray on the top side of the engine.

The shop is now looking to see what happened (I am not saying where it was so dont ask) so my question is:

what could happen? what should I ask them to do?

thanks!

Hey, my guess is when they put the oil filter in, they tightened the cap too tight and pinched the rubber gasket, so oil went flying everywhere. I had this happen to me a long time ago (my Nissan) and I had them do a compression test and steam clean the engine. Luckily, I was ok. Now if it was the Turbo, I would expect more from them. Make them give you some free services or couple of oil changes.

Chris, PM sent.

They can simply drain away excess oil. What does your oil level reading say?
However, I hope engine experts pipe up about whether there could be any
real damage from it...

Sorry, completely misread your post. I would get something in writing from the place that did your oil change stating there is no long term problems or engine damage.

Unless the place that did it is an official Porsche service department,
we don't care what they say, except to admit they put too much
oil in. We want a Porsche service rep. to say that the driving you did
in that condition was harmless.
