Your intercooler intake.

Without taking your car apart, how would you know if there were debris/trash covering the intercooler(s), or stuck out of sight in the aft portion of the intercooler intake? I assume the power would be down depending on how restrictive the trash was.

A Porsche mechanic told me there is a maintenance procedure on one of the higher milage services that calls for checking for trash on the intercoolers. What about in the meantime?

 

I recommend sticking a vacuum hose down there every
once in a while...

You can feel for debris through the intercooler intake. You can see the bottom (outlet) of the intercooler by looking up through the exit vents in the rear fender. The outlet looks wide open and should never become obstructed.

 

I stick the dustbuster (gently) and give her a cleaning. Same thing on air filter boxes.

 

Have you recovered much "stuff" doing this?

I have a small diameter rubber hose for my shop vac and have considered running this down each intake, all the way back to the intercooler.

With all of the Fall and Spring organic stuff around here in the South, I've always wondered how much gets down the intakes. And who knows what people might toss down there when you're parked.

 

Kind of makes you wonder about a large aperture screen. I wonder if anyone sells one.

 

I was thinking the same thing. Porsche should have designed one from the start, but I'm surprised RUF or TechArt (or similar) hasn't come up with some aftermarket answer.
