Question Rear wheel offsets

Porsche approves using 17mm offset spacers on the rear wheels of the Turbo. A couple of questions:

1) Why would Porsche produce and approve these offsets (they're approved only for the stock wheel and tire size)?

2) Why wouldn't I want these on my car? Is it because they would produce more understeer with the stock suspension and alignment settings?

If they don't create worse suspension/handling dynamics, I'd want them if for no other reason than they would allow the rear wheels to better fill out the wheel well (better looks).

i wouldn't recommend spacers. i've had them and they create horrible wheel wobble. i have heard that hub-centric spacers are better, but not sure.......
also read that the sport-tecnic (sp??) wheels come with spacers from the factory on the tt....is this true???? seems kinda cheesy!

Dock, I dont think they are for use with the stock wheels on the TT, they are used for the Sport Techons which are an 18x11 with a 63 offset.

a well made spacer shouldn't make any difference in terms of proformace & handling. the Sport Techno on TT from factory came with 17mm spacers in the back because the wheel was designed to fit both narrow body & wide body 996s.

the new limited production Boxster came from factory with 5mm spacers.

The approved summer tire information from Porsche lists the 17mm spacers as approved for any 11Jx18 OEM rear wheel.

They do list the Sport Techno wheel as requiring the spacers.
