USA to UK Self-Import

Hiya There All,

This is my first post, and would like to thank you all in advance for any help you can give.
I thought I would be able to do it all by myself....but am now a little stuck.

I am importing a Grey 996 Cabrio 2002 facelift from the US and have managed to get everything done, but now I have given it to a garage to SVA and MOT to save time and trouble ("mistake") but they are a little stuck. This is the note from the garage :
Hi Michal,

Ok, went for the MOT yesterday, failed on lights basically, the front amber sidelights need to be converted to indicators and the rear fog needs to be switched to the RHS rather than the left.

Headlight beam pattern is also the wrong way round so he said he would have a go and changing this, unless you know of a way to swap it over?

Kindest Regards,.........

I heard that it is possible to switch the headlights over to a flat beam pattern...Is this true? (Litronic Lights Fitted)
Front Amber Sidelights ? (is that just a relay change)
Fog swapping over..(is that a case of a quick rewire)

I am a Very DIY (a.k.a. tight-wallet) person so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I also heard that pictures are "almost mandatory" so heres my first ever
Porsche 911.....

Many Thanks Michal.

p.s. I owned three VW Polo's Mk1 for the last 10 years

I had a similar issue with a US LHD car brought to RHD country. I gave this info to my dealer and it was done:

From Joel Reiser PCA 996 Tech Q&A:
"Unfortunately it is not super simple. To really do it right, you would need to follow the several pages of procedures outlined in the Porsche factory workshop manual. It is not in the Electrics section, but rather in the maintenance volume.

Set the car on a level surface, driver or helper in the seat, full tank of fuel, correct tires & pressures, with something to point at. With the (under bonnet) carpet pulled back, there are three screws on each side for the adjustments. The lower one of each pair is the height adjustment. Do the low beams with this one first. The upper one does the lateral adjustment, but only when turned the same number of turns as the lower one together. The forward screw is for the foglight, so you shouldn't need that.

...When you do the Xenon lights, it has to be done with the lights on, and then the car has to be switched off and back on again for the settings to take hold, and then they should be checked again. If they didn't do this just right they could have lost their alignment."

Nice ride, and welcome to the 6!

Anybody know anything about the legal or re-spec hurdles for importing a Porsche into the U.S.? I picked up a 2004 996 here in Kuwait where I'll be for a year or 2, and would like to eventually bring it back to the states with me whenever I go home.

At least over here they are civilized enough to drive on the RIGHT side of the road, unlike you Brits.
