What's the best way to get body parts painted?
I'm about to get my spoiler and lip painted and installed at a local body shop. They said they could get the paint close enough so no one would notice. Should I trust the body shop to make the paint match my car? Its meridian silver ( a hard paint to match). I was thinking I should get the paint number and have Porsche send it to me. Is that possible or is there another way.
Your body shop will start with the porsche paint code. Then they'll translate that paint code into the paint code of the paint supplier they use.
From there, they should do a couple spray outs on a small piece of cardboard like material with a popsicle stick on the end. Essentially they hold the spray outs next the car in different lighting conditions to try and perfect the match.
If I were you, I would let them get it as close as possible, then go down there and check the spray out for yourself to make sure it's a match.
Don't expect miracles. Your car is a little bit old and the paint has faded over time. Even with the factory paint code, it still probably won't match right out of the box. Most good body shops should be able to get it very very close though with a couple spray outs. My car and bike are both yellow. It is allegedly the worst color to match. I've had parts done for both vehicles. I just recently had the mirrors done on the ducati. Every paint guy says the same thing, we'll get it as close as we can. Nothing will be as good as having the whole thing sprayed at the factory, but it should be close enough that no one will notice.

What Deputy is telling you is correct. I too have a Meridian painted car and my painter matched it by making his own paint almost perfect. I cannot tell by looking.
And by the way Deputy, I love that spoiler. Glad to help you out.

I raced ducati motorcycles for a while and was always painting something. My painter is very well respected and "sponsered by dupont". I was doing a wild paint job on my current ducati and couldn't get the code for the paint anywhere. So a dupont rep came in with a paint laser and took the color right off my tank and said they had 2 colors that would be very close. He recommended one and the color is exact! They could probably use the laser to match your car pretty exact.

I just had my aerokit I wing, skirts, and bumper painted. I dropped th parts off at t shop, and they never saw my car. My car is a tough color to match too...zenith blue metallic, and the parts are now a bit darker than the rest of the car. the only place you can really tell though is at the junction between the hood and the bumper...I'm pretty sure my hood is a bit faded after nearly 80k miles. I kind of wish I had my paint shop take my car to try and get a perfect match. Mine looks pretty good still...but its not perfect and it bugs me a little. Scott
