GET IT FIXED....My hardtop has been on my car only twice in 4 years...Literally there is more noise with it on. Squeeks and rattles, while with it off, its fairly quiet. There is less wind noise with the hard top, but the squeeks and rattles drive me nuts.

 

I have a 2000 C2 Cab and the type of noise that you're describing is NOT normal at all. I would have a good upholstery shop take a look at it. It sounds like air is entering the top somehow and causing buffeting. If you do purchase a hard top, look for deals on eBay. The top should fit your 2002 and it makes a HUGE difference in quieting engine noise and general traffic. I just put mine on for the Winter and it's just like driving a coupe!

 

i think ur noise maybe the tires as well. the 996 top does rattle if it's not adjusted but it's never too loud from wind.

as for hard top, if your cab didn't come with one, it probly won't have the hard top recepticle next to the roll bars where hard top tightens down. you can check this by pulling out the round plastic covers next to pop up roll bar.
