On a happy note and update.... they finished with my car, test drove it and the coils are bad. X-Warr is picking the tab for the coils and also the pullley fo the alternator. The X-warranty bill is close to $6K and I'm only paying $75 deduct! OMG!!!! I will end with a brand new car!!!! 
Also, they are talking to Porsche reps to see what can they do about my cats...
So far, between the X-warranty and the Pirela checkbook:
New Clutch (complete)
New RMS seal (Later edition with updated everything including the IMS screws, etc...)
New front suspension (minus shock absorbers) links, arms and sway bars
New starter
New alternator
New pulleys
New Oil and filter
New air filter
New cabin filter
New spark plugs
New coils
New sunroof switch
New actuator gas lid
replaced small coolant hose over left bank (leaking)
All on a 1.5 month ownership....
That translates to:

Joel, welcome aboard. I've heard it said that there's no such thing as a cheap used Porsche -- you either pay up front, or you pay over time for repairs. Either way, you pay!

Here is what I have had to endure in the last 18 months for a 24K mile car when purchased (30K miles now). I knew that it was a tad on the rough side, but never in my dreams did I think it would need these many repairs. Please note that the labor prices are here in Panama for non dealer mechanics (yet Porsche factory trained people). The large number before the $ amount is my mileage in kilometers. Add to this a MAF sensor that is dead (±$300) and a failed key remote (±$200). Now you will understand why I want to get rid of this car.....

When I got my car, I also had an extended warranty (still has it until this coming July) and in the first 3 months the Ext-Warr covered for a cracked expansion tank, bad ignition switch, bad seat control module, and bad outside rear view mirror switch. With the labor cost included, that ext-warr almost paid off for itself. But since then, I have had no issues at all (knock on wood), great sport car, I love it... Good luck with yours.

I have a '99 C2 that I bought in 2004. Four years and 20k miles later (now at 50k), I've had to replace the clutch, RMS seal, the brakes, coolant tank, and multiple oil changes. I didn't have extended warranty so I had to foot the $3k bill for clutch/RMS/brakes.
It's a lot of money... but at the end of the day, you still have one great car. I think the best solution is to go out for a drive and it'll be all worth it.

My 2001 911 has been the most trouble-free car I've ever owned. After 7 years of ownership, I haven't needed a single repair -- just routine maintenance.

I've had my 996 since November, so I don't have much of a history yet; not with this Porsche. I drive it regularly and no leaks or issues yet. This thread is great b/c it gives me a glimpse into the future.

if you want reliability i probably wouldn't get a BMW. more of the same, just different German guys building it.

I hate to say thsi Joel but your repair nightmares are, most likely, only beginning. The Porsches I have seen that are daily drivers are, at best, costly. You must have a decent sized check book if you want to drive a USD100,000 performance car as a daily driver.
I have also seen that Porsches that need repair...need ALOT! It seems to be one of those either extremes.
Ill probably get in trouble for saying this but here it goes....Porsches are NOT reliable quality built daily drivers. Its a performance car. Permormance cars break. No free lunch.
I would consider taking the car back and cutting your losses. Have you talked to an attorney? You may be able to take the car back (they may be obligated to do so) and get a better one (from someone else). I certainly would not keep it any longer.

Disagree COMPLETELY. I put 100,000 miles on my C4 Cab in 4 years...I paid for 2 repairs and the normal upkeep. I bought a CPO car and while under warranty alot of things got fixed for free. Once all those issues were ironed out, it was a VERY reliable car. Remember, its the first water cooled 911..EVER. So there will be issues. If you want ultimate reliability buy a Lexus...but other than that ALL upscale brands will have issues of some sort.

^^^ Im with him I bought my car with 61K miles on it and since have over 103K now. daily driver/beater and no major problems. I had to replace one coil, window regulators, a coolant hose and my coolant resivoir cap. thats it! Oh and maybe a couple little oil leaks but very very reliable : )
Unbelieveable. "Oh and a couple of little oil leaks". I love how you brushed that aside. No offense but your car should not have a couple of oil leaks in 40k. Thats just bad.
Dont get me wrong. Porsches are cool. So are Harleys and they should come with a tool kit or a second job.
Go to NSXprime.com and noone is ever complianing that their car breaking and that they have oil leaks.
