True cost of ownership.... reality check! ; )
^ lol thanks for the attack im just a stupid 1 post guy. I casually brush stuff off. MY CAR HAS 103,000 MILES!!!!!!!!!!
I Drive it like a complete A-hole! And it still runs. Im amazed it still runs!
I would take a 911 over a mid-engined civic any day of the week. But hey no offense : )

I hate to say thsi Joel but your repair nightmares are, most likely, only beginning. The Porsches I have seen that are daily drivers are, at best, costly. You must have a decent sized check book if you want to drive a USD100,000 performance car as a daily driver.
I have also seen that Porsches that need repair...need ALOT! It seems to be one of those either extremes.
Ill probably get in trouble for saying this but here it goes....Porsches are NOT reliable quality built daily drivers. Its a performance car. Permormance cars break. No free lunch.
I would consider taking the car back and cutting your losses. Have you talked to an attorney? You may be able to take the car back (they may be obligated to do so) and get a better one (from someone else). I certainly would not keep it any longer.

ZemDogg.....Pretty hostile. You should take a little more care as a site sponsor and a represenative of Porsche of Orlando.
I dont care how many posts you have or how much you want to beat up my other cars. To say that a Porsche 911 is a reliable daily driver for anyone to drive is skewing the facts a bit.
This guy stated in his first post that he is a middle income guy with a family. I do not believe that a 85K mile Porsche 911 as a daily driver is a good pick for him if he want to keep repair costs down. He is just spoiled as he drove a Lexus. He doesnt know what repair bills are (yet).
You shouldnt be amazed.
I stand by what I said. Your car should not have a couple of oil leaks when you drive it from 60-100k miles. Porsche already knew that they had quality issues with their cars in the late 90's and has been working hard to correct them but they are not all the way there yet.

Any car...no matter what the make/model/year that you purchase used is going to have issues. It is up to you as the potential owner to do your due diligence to protect your cash outlay.
Before you buy a Porsche or any other make out there you really do yourself a huge disservice if you do not do the following:
1. Research the make you are interested in.
2. Research the make you are interested in.
3. Research the make you are interested in.
4. Research the make you are interested in.
When you find "the" one....GET A PPI DONE.
You will save yourself time and money in the long run if you know what you are getting into.
By the way, my 1999 with 55K on it (about 20K at the track) doesn't drip a drop of oil, and the only cash outlays I have made are for performance upgrades....and a clutch at 54K miles.
I only wish it were more reliable.

Im not that hostile man just responding to your response. Im not worried about how this looks, it's my opinion and I love Porsche. I have heard the horror stories and completely understand. Im just saying myself and many more like me use them as daily drivers and it works. It works damn good actually.
Once again your facts are not correct. Porsche is not working hard to correct problems, they HAVE corrected them. They are working hard to stay as ONE OF THE MOST RELAIBLE CAR COMPANIES(not just sport cars) in the world. That is fact. You can look it up : )
As far as oil leaks the case is slightly wet. Looks to be a very easy fix. No biggie no drips and will be fixed at my next oil change. I think thats about 8000 miles from now : )
Sorry if I came off like a crazy person I get really passionite about these cars I guess.
no problem
I guess we agree to disagree. You are selling Porsche's I would hope you are passionate and believe in your product.
Im just saying that this is not a new Porsche. You can tell from the thread that several people have negative repair experiences with their car. The guy that started this thread asked a question. I feel that I am giving him and honest answer.
There is alot more that could go wrong with your car. For whatever reason it is not a good one. Cut your losses now, let the wife win, and go get another one.

Well, like most of second hand buyers, I found a way of trading up.
Instead of buying a new BMW or Lexus IS that will get the job done + come with the warranty/maintenance, etc.... I decided to opt for a high mileage, base options (only Litronics, premium sound and 18" carrera wheels) 911 carrera.
Test drove the car 4 times and it really impressed me. Power at all revs and coming from a Lexus IS250 (now the wife's) it was a difference!
Bought the car for low 30's and I purchase an extended warranty. I couldn't do a PPI but I had a 5 day, no questions asked, return policy. So the next day of purchase, I have my appointment at The Collection Porsche in Miami. The only thing that came back from the PPI was the RMS (Covered by the X-tended warranty) and I needed a new clutch. I said great. I will get the X-Warr company to pay for the RMS and I will pay for the clutch kit only since they have to remove the clutch and put it back to get the RMS done... Made my appointment 2 days after purchase and took the car in... My Porsche guy called the X-warranty and they say they have a grace period of 30 days after purchase on which any repair need to be performed by the seller dealer's mechanics (non porsche dealership). Now, imagine having $5/hour grease monkeys dealing with your hi-end car RMS fix. They may not have the latest tools and the latest updates in parts for the RMS seal, they may re-use the single use screws, etc... So I said "**** it" just do it and I will pay for it. So instead of paying for $500 clutch kit. I ended paying $3071 for the clutch and RMS. Nice!
. Total days of ownership: 2. Happy wife: not!
So I waited a month after that, to get my laundry list of thing to do...
Gas flip actuator
Sunroof not working (it was working while test driving)
Plastic clunck on the front suspension
Missfire CEL (Code p0300, p0301, p0303)
CEL code p2098 (fuel trim post cat)
Gas thing, was picked by X-Warr, thanks!
sunroof , was picked by X-Warr, thanks!
Front cluck, front sway bars, arms, etc was picked by X-Warr, thanks!
Missfire... leaking coolant on a $4 hose on top of the coils on cylinder 1 and 3... I have to pay that!
CEL p2098... my cats are bad. $1500 and change/labor/taxes!
Porsche has a 8 year, 80K mile warranty on the cats... you guessed. I have 84K on the clock.
Do you think that since we are so close to the cut-off time, porsche will give me a break on the cats?
anyway, I decided to get the spark plugs replaced and have them inspect the coils. Michael Armenteros at the Collection is awesome and taking care of me and Joe at the parts is awesome too....
But then, I will pay this tuesday $1200 + the $3070 + the $300 for the PPI.
All the money that I had for mods is really dissappearing in front of my eyes...
I know that at the end, I will have an awesome car with all the services done and all the small things taken care of... but I can't afford a $5000 per year in little things that cost nothing to buy but $1000's to get replaced.
Maybe, if you really can't afford a brand new Porsche, you can't really afford an used Porsche?
I don't want to go back to a boring car again after driving a porsche for almost 2 months... but it's getting hard to swallow at times and the wife is keeping giving me "that" look.
I'm alone in this?
I see people buying Areo RUF kits for $11K and wheels and tires for $8K and I'm *****ing for a $3000 bill? Am I in the wrong audience? Am I not worthy of Porsche ownership?
I will go to my corner now.... thanks for listening!

that is where you should have returned the car since you could have returned the car within 5 days with no questions etc. and by 2nd day you had a bill of $3071 and later 1200$for cats and 300$ for PPI.
That's what i would have done, returned that car since it has 84k miles on it. At that mileage things are gonna need to be replaced. Plus not knowing the history of the car buying from a dealer on a high end car would steer me away. yeah, i would have returned the car and gone back to looking for a car with a bit lower mileage and warranty also.
But anyway, looks like u r liking your car a lot and enjoying. that my friend is priceless.
I'm back and got the car today. It's awesome. What is even better is the X-Warranty behavior... They took one for the team!!!
It already pay-off!
I only paid $800 for the coolant hose and the sparkplugs...
They paid:
for the gas lid actuator + install
for the alternator's pulley + install
for the starter + install
for 6 coils + install
for sunroof swicht + install
Payment from the X-warr to the dealer was painless (they provided a credit car) and since I performed a maintenance repair at the same time, I didn't have to pay for the $70 per visit deductible. My service advisor said that it's the best experience he had with an extended warranty. The car runs awesome again and I didn't have to fill a claim form or even make a phone call... and all that coming from car max's max-care program.... I was scared!
I'm happy now... wife is getting there...

You guys just don't get it...
You buy a new porsche that no one but you has ever driven if you want it for a daily driver, when the warranty is over, it becomes a weekend car and you buy another new porsche for your daily. This is how I have done it since the late 80's (back in the days of 2 year factory warranties) and prevented any unplanned super expensive days. Too many "leased" used cars were beat on and not taken care of in the market to risk a used one for a daily driver.

I can appreciate that Corey and in a perfect world there is no better option but owning 2 Porsches can be difficult for many : ) Me being one of them. And no matter how many probelms one can come across its hgihly unlikely that it will equal the cost of another new Porsche lol But damn that would be nice! : )
The cost does not outweigh the enjoyment of driving a Porsche!! Money should not be an issue when doing maintenance/repairs on exotics.....when you buy the car you should be prepared for all the expenses it will incur. If you are so worried about the money then you should not go above your means and stay with a HONDA!!!!!
I guess that pre-owned vehicles and depreciation values, opened the gate to some porsche enthusiasts that don't have the buying power for a new vehicle (me included!). I mean, yes, I can finance a brand new porsche and make the $1500 monthly payment or buy one outright and deplete my savings/retirement fund but that's not what i want/afford to do right now. Maybe if I'm single but I'm not. Due to the ammount of miles I drive, I can justify a more affordable lease. So, back to us (the poor enthusiastic group)...
Yes, I did my research and just by looking at this thread, you can see people voicing the 103K mile cars with only a water pump change... or 7 year old cars with NO REPAIRS whatsoever... but also, you can see the ones with headaches after headaches... So I took the gamble and bit the bullet. opted for the extended warranty that was a blessing... (best $2699 that I've paid in life!) I CAN afford maintenance, no prob... if it's not that often!!!
Thanks for your sympathy and patience during this thread...
