Tell me, why do many of the stats on the C2 show a faster 0-60 than the C4S? If the C4S launches better why am I seeing a .02 lag to 60 compared to a C2? I assume weight is the key factor, but I would figure the AWD would compensate for the weight gain?
While weight is a factor, I think it's due to additional drivetrain losses due to the AWD setup. It's a less effecient drivetrain. .. can't really get around that.

OTOH, the C4S is faster on a road course and more confident in every day backroad driving. Porsche says it's 4 seconds faster than the C2 at the 'ring.

You'll never feel the slight slower staight line performance; get the C4S, unless, of course, you are more of a purist and require the RWD setup.

I much prefer the lithe look and performance of the Carrera 2 over the C4S. Especially when it's dressed up with the GT3 aerokit.

I'm not a fan of the Turbo-look front bumper. The widebody on the 993 is sexy due to its more pronounced coke bottle look. The widebody on the 996 is just too gargantuan due to the slab sided styling.

With all that said, you can't go wrong with either one.

Thanks for all the feedback gang! I'm hoping that once the 997's hit the showroom then I will be able to get a decent savings on the 996 C4S....maybe on trade-in or via a Porsche broker???

As for performance, if you haven't driven them back to back, you should. When you combine the better suspension of the C4S and the way it pulls out of corners, you may be won over.

I was set to go down the C2 + aero path, until I drove the C4S. In fact, I only drove the C4S b/c the salesperson kept insisting. I thought, 'what the heck, how bad can a new C4S with 35miles on the clock be?'. I was then won over. That, and the fact that c2 + aero gets you awful close to the price of a C4S, the choice became clear for me.

I definitely appreciate your feedback, frayed. And even without driving it, I'm pretty much sure I'd agree with your assessment re: C4S.

But I won't be tracking my 911 much so looks win me over more so than anything else (at this level, it is splitting hairs somewhat).

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...e=STRK:MEWA:IT

i'm considering the example above. it's really hard to come across a 911 that's got all the goodies i want from the get-go. getting this stuff aftermarket is expensive esp in the porsche world!

Enjoy,

Ben, that car is hot. No doubt about it. I'm betting Champion sold that car originally since it has the Champion RG5s on it (or so it looks).

Get it!!

...speaking of eBay

Is it safe to buy a Porsche out of state? I am in California and wonder if I will have issues getting a smog check with an out-of-state car?

I assume that I will find a local Porsche Dealer nearby the seller so I can make sure the frame is straight and the car is in excellent condition. It is scary paying 70K for a car that is not brand new via eBay...

As far as I know, 996's are 50 state cars. Shouldn't be a problem as long as the car is stock.

Good luck. Be sure to post some pics when you get it.

It looks like the $10K price delta between a C2 and C4S are clearly justified.

Difference is $14,800.

Yeah yeah, as you can tell I am trying to sell myself on it (and my wife) so how about, "a little over $10k more..."
