Softronic ECU Flash Special and More Goodies
Obviously you're affiliated with Softronic / the owner or something along those lines to make such a bold statement- Do you write the software yourself / Duram was mistaken?
Yes I own Softronic and Duram does not write my software (Maps or also known as Tuned Files). He did write the code for the Flash tool that we use and market to other tuning companies. I wanted to clarify this so that there was no more confusion.
Im also the PCA Technical Expert that supplies data to him.

What I stated is what I was heard directly with my own ears, and that is about the most I can tell you. It is always possible that information can be misgiven or misunderstood.
However, my intention was to be helpful and provide validity for your software, to try and help sales.
Thank you for setting the record straight and letting us all know.
This has been a quasi-dramatic thread thus far. I was interested in the answer to one question that I think may have been over-looked: Are there different flashes for cars with different mods, or is there just one generic flash?
Thanks,
John
Thanks,
John
Hello John ,
Since I'm on-line I will answer it for you. There are 2 base maps for the 987 and 997 cars, With Sport or Without. I would not call a Softronic flash generic. Softronic does not perform global changes to files yet alters the complete fuel and ignition maps. These maps once altered in this fashion are self adaptive and will automatically run the engine to its optimal performance level. Basically you are better off having a tune that will adjust to the actual running parameters of the engine in real time than just adding x amount more timing or fuel to the whole file.
Mods Info
Hey Guys.. I have a follow-up request for information to bM3R's post about dyno numbers. I have begun to enhance my '02 and would like the honest low-down on gains. Obviously if you sum the manufacturer gains on average for a plenum, intake, headers, exhaust and tune, you've got a 430 crank hp car, which is a bit optimistic. I'm going to make the mods regardless, especially the weight reducing parts, but what is a realistic gain for these at the wheels or crank ? I bought the plenum first (only purchase so far) and will be going to the dyno before install to get a baseline Mon or Tues. Any recommended order of mods? I am thinking tune last...
One more item..dry filter a no-brainer or are the filter oil rumors substantiated without excessive re-oiling ?

To be honest with you the best gain would be from a flash and hopefully the correct one for the most performance.
Thanks for the order Joe!
Guys... lets stop drinking the Hatorade. Softronic and Scott are a great service to this community. I am not saying that because I sell, I am saying that because of what he has helped me accomplish with our projects here. If you REALLY compare the competitions product on functionality, useability, and performance, Softronic is a great product at a great price. Scott is a smart guy, so smart that 99% of the time I have no idea what he is talking about. Give him a ring directly and he can tell you directly how he tunes and compares his product. www.softronic.us

The only tough part is assembling the metal air box, the instructions are a bit weak and it is not difficult, just time consuming to put the small pieces together. Overall Fit is great.
You'll need to eyeball the snorkel mount on the left of the air box, since you will be re-using the factory piece. You'll want to line it up with the air inlet opening in the spoiler roof befroe securing with a screw.
One of the best mods I've done so far, it's a two-beer job.

P0rsch3: Looks like you run that K&N dry. Is that due to the possible oil/MAF issue? Also the snorkel looks a little to the right of the deck inlet. Is that just camera angle? So the K&N still draws most it's air through the snorkel?
I think the only time you may have an issue is if you over-oil it, so when it comes time for cleaning / re-oiling exercise care.
That "off to the right" look is probably due to camera angle, this is the piece that you will have to jocky around a bit and test open/close fitment before you secure it to the airbox. I actually drilled a hole and added an extra screw at the airbox mount point. You can see the screwhead to the left of and slightly below the oil filler cap where the snorkel enters the airbox. not a big deal though.
All the air comes in throught the snorkel into the air box.
