996 ball joints?

I'm preparing to install PS9 coil-overs for which I've already found and download install procedures, and I know about the joyfull C4-related differences. However, I am trying to research other possible issues before I start this project.

Are the ball joints known to be a problem area on these cars? I don't want to get this all re-assembled only to find out I have bad ball joint when I take it in for alignment.

Anyone know how or where to find the factory specifications and test method(s) for checking the 996's ball joint play? My (e-bay special...) electronic manual doesn't provide any details at all.

My car is a 2000 C4 with just under 50K miles and no 'noticable' steering or handling related problems, unless you count setting waaaaaaay to high in the air!

.... I hear crickets, which is a good sign. No ball joint issues here.

I swapped out my lower control arms (connected by ball joints at the end) when they started squeaking. Happened at about 65k miles. (2000 C2).
