Dilema? WTB 99-02 aero coupe

So, last week I had someone offer a car to me that is in the right color ( I am only looking for White, Guards Red or Speed Yellow)

Miles are a little more than I wanted and no Aero kit, which is important to me. The price is considerably lower than what I would spend on a perfect aero coupe though.

So i called the Porsche indy in close by and they are telling me it would be 8700 for the front bumper, side skirts and taco wing, plus 2000 for paint and install, taxes of 13% on top of that and GT fins are another 1000 installed.

Are there any other alternatives, say around 5K for a total job, want the classic looks of the MK1 aero kit but at that price it will be much less to buy the perfect aero coupe to begin with.

You can buy the full OEM aerokit for something like $5,600 from Suncoast. You can get aftermarket from Mashaw for about $3,400. You should be able to at least find a car for sale with the skirts; they are common, saving you $600+ paint. Bottom line, first get yourself another quote from someone else. These prices are all for MKII, if you want MKI you can find many better bargains out there. There are also more full aero MKI cars in general. That said, you are being picky and may have to shop around for a whicle if you want a full aero car in a particular color.

Wow that is a huge spread in price, I think they may be shafting us a little on OE parts here in Canada.

I find its almost impossible to get all the variables to line up as I would like, its either a compromise on wheels, color, interior color, suspension, exhaust and the list goes on and on, I know almost anything can be added later but, usuall when I add up the cost of adding what I want to a lesser equiped car to begin with it would end up costing me more than its worth here.

Thanks Deckman, I will check out MA Shaw as well

The one thing I wish I'd been looking for when I bought mine is the full leather interior. I think it makes a huge difference to the interior, and it's downright cost prohibitive to add later. There are few NB's that have it.

You can drop serious bucks on mods, easily $10k just on cosmetics and aerodynamics. Unless you have that laying around (most of us don't or maybe we'd buy new?) you need to carefully prioritize.

Very good point Deckman, I know there is no alcantera headliner in the 99's which is nice to have, but the full leather is an plus in older cars because if it has been well cared for looks and feels much better than the plastic.

white/red/yellow 996 with the right options is kinda hard to find already. finding one with aerokit is even harder. if you are patient enough u should be able to find it in a few months. or if u cant wait, then build one yourself. FYI i spent ~7k for turbo front/rear, misha wing and side skirt.

I have been exploring this option, since the car offered to me is mint, has wheels, susp, exhaust, painted console, intake, shift kit and owned by a fellow enthusiast which pampered it, I could save myself alot of money for doing a little extra cosmetics work and still get the car i desire.

Was able to source oem kit for 3K plus paint. Would still like to buy a car that is the way I want so I can atleast enjoy it this summer for three months, but money does'nt grow on trees, this may be the alternate for me.
