I have a 2001 996 C2. I'm tracking my car this weekend and even before I got on the track my car started cutting out. It was like the ignition was shut off, a few seconds later it would kick back in. The fuel tank was 1/2 full. I went and filled it full and it didn't happen again. It was 95 in Pueblo CO where I'm tracking. It was almost like vapor lock. I had just driven 1.5 hours down from Denver with no problems. Any ideas? I hope I don't have to drive the whole weekend with a full tank of gas. Thanks.

 

sounds like a fuel pump to me- I had a similar occurrance, did same steps, and two weeks later it just wouldn't start. Had to replace it.

 

When the fuel pump ready to goes bad it will do this with half or less tank of gas. The pump work really hard to get much needed fuel required so it goes hot and shut down. Similar to my previous Bimmer too.
