Widebody Conversion Under WAY

Here are some pictures of my car getting dismantled for the widebody conversion. They have stripped the interior, pulled off the older fenders and the hood, and removed the rear bumper. Not bad for a day of work. I will be posting pictures, updating the status of the conversion throughout the month. I should have the car back on the 15th of Sept.

Are you also doing a turbo face lift to the car? I have a 1999 C4 and putting on a turbo wide body on with the light and front fenders. Let me know and good luck. I will also post pics after I am done.

I am putting Tech Art Type II Front Bumper, 2002 up Bi Xenon headlights, and Strosek Wing, with the widebody conversion

but oh my lord that is just the scariest thing I have seen (car totally apart). Very painful. I agree with arling...you should probably wait till it is finished but then how will you get us updates?

I agree that thing looks like the car vultures got ahold of it!

I think I'll just wait for the finished product, process pics are painful!

Vince... how much more $$ would it have cost to sell the 99 and buy a C4S? Just curious -- seems like that conversion will cost an awful lot!?

Sure, but then he would be left with a heavier, AWD Carrera instead of a much more nibble feeling drivers car.

True on the AWD -- would be interesting tho to see how much weight the conversion adds. 99's had 296hp I think? What did the C4S have, 320 or so?

When the car is done it will be another 3 inches wider in the rear, thats 2 inches wider that a Turbo or C4S. In the front it will be 1.5" wider than a turbo. The car will have a 9.5" rim on the front with a 265/30/19 and a 315/25/19 in the rear on a 19x12. If i wanted the car only to be wider by an inch I would not have done the widebody, I would have purcahsed a C4s just like your suggestion. IMO its not worth it to do a conversion just for an extra inch. Also another reason I did it was to fit this rim on the car.

19x12 iForged Seneka with 6" lip


With the money I am spending it would cost the same as a 2002 C4S, but now I will have the Tech Art Body Kit, a custom painted Cobalt Blue C2, and a much wider track.

I believe the Turbo/C4S are 2.5" or 2.6" wider than the narrow-body.

According to Porscheusa.com:
Narrow body 996:
Width 69.7 in
Wide body 996:
Width 72.1 in


Unless my math skills totally suck, that's a difference of 2.4"

All that money to make a narrow body car 0.6" wider than a widebody Turbo and have 100hp less(never mind a Twin Turbo with chip/turbos etc).

Whatever flips your skirt!

Riiiiiiight...and all the weight from this widebody conversion is just lost somehow?

I bet his RWD "widebody conversion" ends up as heavy as the AWD C4S. Unless the widebody materials are all carbon fiber which I doubt.

With 19x12" rear rims and matching tires and who knows how wide on the front, think about all that unsprung weight/rolling mass. I'm sure it is going to be really [sic] "nibble"
